Rescued Rott... Is it purebred?

s?4y have the pictures of my new rottweiler... The breeder said he was purebred.. He has long hair, and is skinny.. The vet says he might be purebred, but cant tell until he gets older.. He did tell me the dog was only about 7 or 8 months old...

Gorgeous dog! I'm in love with the long-haird Rottweilers. I'm not sure if he is pure-bred or not but he's gorgeous!

:)

My guess is he is mixed, maybe some shepherd in him?
Regardless he is a very handsom boy and lucky to have you, and you him. :) Just love him and don't worry about pure bred or not.

He is a handsome lucky boy. :)
I agree with your vet, you have to wait until he gets older.

Amy, I agree. It could possibly be a Shepherd mix. Julius went through his first awkward stage right around 7 months old where he was all legs & goofy head. So I think that time will probably tell with this guy.

:)

His coat looks a lot like Cooper. He looks like a rottweiler to me.

He looks all Rottweiler, but with a sway back - gorgeous dog! If he's that age, it may be hard to tell.
I have a longhaired Rottweiler, and his full coat didn't come in until he was two. He actually comes from a very good breeding; a recessive gene (both parents have the gene) is the cause.

If you want to see what a mature longhaired Rottweiler looks like, here's some pics of Cooper at 20 months:

And here's some pics of him from my website, taken this summer:

Right now he's got his winter coat, it's even heavier.

Congratulations on Duke! He's a honey. :)

I also vote Long Hair Purebred. If he is mixed the Rottweiler genes dominated.....:D

He looks pure long haired to me...or very predominantly rottie! I have seen a long haired rott/newfie mix pup, and oh BOY, the coat on her! MUCH fuzzier and more hair...but OOOOHHHHH so cute!

Question - does he have to ride chained in the back of the truck? I bet he'd be happier inside with you :D ...dog forbid you crashed & rolled over :( .

Breeder says he's purebred...then why is he in rescue or in need of rescue - why didn't his so called breeder take him back?

Who cares, actually, he's adorable and have fun with him!

I most often get asked if Cooper is a Rott/Newf mix.

he is in the back because I have a regular cab s10, and he is simply too wild right now to ride up front with me.. I'll work on that as soon as i get a little training in him... I ordered three of the books you all reccomended from amazon.com and they should be here january 8th...

As for the breeder, he sells them, but still had duke.. he was the one that hit duke because he licked his hand.. When i asked him why he was off byhimself and he was selling him so cheap, he realied with "ive beat the tar of that dog, and cant make it mean.. What good is a kind rottweiler?" he seemed drunk at the time.. it came from a backwoods backyard breeder..

I personally love his coat.. Its soft and shiny, and the back of his head is the softest coat I have ever felt...

I've personally known 2 purebred Rotties with that recessive long hair, Ceasar and Atlas. Your could easily be a purebred also. At the very least he's a LUCKY DOG and has found his new forever home!:D

What a beautiful boy!! He looks all rotty to me. It's obvious you really love him and want to give him a good home. Stick with this forum as there's so much to learn about this breed and their care. I've had my 1st rotty for 4 months now and have learned so much here and still have much more to learn.

I'm thrilled that you already bought the recommended books!!! Keep up the good work and keep an open mind to the many suggestions you've already received/will receive on this forum. The advice in invalueable.

Congratulations and thanks for helping this boy out!!!

Dee
