Who cares if he is pure or not?
But if i were you, Id report the breeder to Animal Control and let them check for any violations. Sounds like he may have some and hopefully they can shut him down. You can do it anonymously if you prefer. At least in VA, they have to check out ALL complaints.

I am sure he is purebred...he looks all Rottweiler, but he is definitely pet quality. All purebred means is that two Rottweilers were bred.

If you want to learn something here about the Rottweiler standard there are a few things I observed that make him what we call pet quality. One is his long hair which is thrown by a recessive gene. The other is his topline (back)...he has a sway back. Rottweiler backs are supposed to be short and very straight so you could say he is also what they call 'long' in the back. If you'll notice he also seems to tuck his hips under so they appear a bit humplike...that is what is called high in the rear. His ears are a bit large and could be carried better, but for a pet I think its endearing. It was hard to see his rear, but it looks fairly strong. He seems to stand a bit east west but that could correct as he grows older and his chest straightens.

Now its not all critical. Although he is a bit overmarked, his markings seem to be a lovely rich color, as a matter of fact his coloring all over is quite good. His head is fairly nice, although he could use a bit more fill under the eyes. His muzzle seems fairly short which is good, but his lips could be a bit darker. Its hard to tell, but on most pictures his forleg seems nice and short they way they are supposed to be. Its very hard to tell about his eyes and obviously we cannot see movement or judge temperament.

I think you have a very nice pet Rottweiler! Have him fixed and just love him, train him and enjoy him! Thanks for sharing him with us! :)

as for his temperment.. its actually really good.. He has not showed agression except for one instance when we were walking downtown, and a group of african-american men walked by.. he layed his ears back and snarled and growled.. I dont know why.. and once when another dog was barking and trying aggitiate him, he snarled and barked..

He likes to jump on people is the only problem i have with him... He wont jump on me anymore, but he will jump on anyone else... I think that is the alpha concept coming into effect.. He knows i am alpha male, he just thinks he is second, over everyone else...

funny thing.. he stays in his dog house and in the woods in the picture... unless its raining or snowing, in which case you will find him on his back in tghe middle of the yard with all 4 feet int he air, snoring.....

I agree with Chivas. Pure or not doesn't matter. He looks like a sweet boy that is deserving of the best home you can give him.

My dog Koda I'm sure has many faults as he's from a puppy mill but I love him just the same. To me, he's the most beautiful, smart, funny, loyal and loving dog and I feel so blessed to have him in my life.

I'm so glad you rescued this poor boy from his other owner. Also, I agree with Chivas about turning his former owner into the authorities. Hopefully something can be done.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted on how your boy's doing! He's beautiful!

I'm confused. First you said he was a rescue, then in another post you said he was sold cheaply because the breeder couldn't make him mean enough. Did you pay for the dog?

About the back of the truck thing. Instead of the rope idea which can be very dangerous, I have seen some people bolt medal crates down for the dog in the back(Has dangers also but safer then a rope). Also for the front, if you buy him a seat belt harness and keep it tight enough he won't be able to move about and will soon settle.....;)

here is the story behind the dog.. He belonged to an elderly couple.. The man died, and the lady was not able to care for the dog.. The man's son, who bred the dog took it back to care for it... He was going to send it to the pound if no one took it.. He didnt want it back because it was too nice.... I paid 50 dollars to get it from him..

That is the story I was told.. What doesnt make much sense is the fact that the guy told me that he was a year and a half old.. Everyone that has seen him says he is only 7 or 8 months old... I can tell you the guy that i got it from DOES have a breeding pair.. The female is a perfect example of a rott... She is beautiful.. The male is very agressive as were all the other males.. i couldnt get close enough to it to see him very good...

I would like to look into the seat belt harness....

Here's a great site to check out for Caine Auto Restraint Equipment. Check it out. Especially if your guy needs to ride in the back of your truck - there are ways to safely secure him.

I have one of these and I love it! They also work in trucks and vans as there is a "D" ring and an attatchment. You'll see if you scroll to the bottom of the site.

One more book that I like and didn't see mentioned is "The ULTIMATE ROTTWEILER" by Andrew Brace. I've referred to mine many times over. ;)

I like the name DUKE!:D
