*CATNIP* Natural protection against Mosquitoes, Black Flies . . .

Interesting - and humourously enough I can't help but wonder if being drenched in Catnip oil will have you warding off frenzied felines instead of battling Mosquitoes and Black Flies.

*CATNIP* Natural protection against Mosquitoes, Black Flies, Horse Flies and other pests.

*CATNIP*
NOW WITH ROSEMARY OIL
- Catnip Oil Repels Mosquitoes Better than DEET
- All Natural without Dangers of DEET
- Long Lasting, Water Repelling, non aerosol spray
- Repels Mosquitoes, Black Flies, Horse Flies
- Safe for Children and Adults (see usage warnings)
- Safe for animals & pets (see usage warnings)
Nature's Herbal Natural Mosquito & Insect Repellent is the most powerful
long lasting natural protection against Mosquitoes, Black Flies, Horse Flies
and other pests. Based on actual research studies at Iowa State University,
in which Catnip oil was found to be 10 times more effective than DEET at
repelling mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are the main carrier of the West Nile
Virus, Yellow Fever, and other dangerous illnesses.

Natural Mosquito & Insect Repellent Ingredients
100% Pure Catnip oil (80/90% neptalactone)< 1%,
100% Pure Pennyroyal oil (neptalactone),
100% Pure Vegetable Glycerin,
100% Pure Rosemary oil

Pennyroyal oil is also known for its ability to repel biting insects, and Vegetable Glycerin allows for easy application and helps keep the repellent on the skin for up to 8 hours. This is a 100% Natural Insect Repellent without the potential dangerous side effects of DEET.

Catnip Oil (nepetalactone) Research Information: CHICAGO, August 27, 2001 - American Chemical Society, Scientific American Review - "Researchers report that nepetalactone, the essential oil in catnip that gives the plant its characteristic odor, is about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET - the compound used in most commercial insect repellents.

The finding was reported at the 222nd national meeting of the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society, by the same Iowa State University research group that two years ago discovered that catnip also repels cockroaches.

Entomologist Chris Peterson, Ph.D., with Joel Coats, Ph.D., and chair of the university's entomology department, led the effort to test catnip's ability to repel mosquitoes. Peterson, a former post-doctoral research associate at the school, is now with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Wood Products Insects Research Unit, in Starkville, Miss.

Peterson says nepetalactone is about 10 times more effective than DEET because it takes about one-tenth as much nepetalactone as DEET to have the same effect. Most commercial insect repellents contain about 5 percent to 25 percent DEET. Presumably, much less catnip oil would be needed in a
formulation to have the same level of repellency as a DEET-based repellent" WITHOUT the dangerous side effects of DEET.

Usage Warning: For external use only. Do not ingest or take internally. Do not spray directly in face or eyes. May cause excitability if used on cats.

Application Instructions: Shake well before use, apply liberally. Re-apply often depending on conditions. Spray on arms, legs and any exposed areas or areas vulnerable to bites. Mosquitoes will bit through socks and loose weave clothing that is in direct contact with skin surface - so application may be required under these clothes. For application to face and head, spray into
hands and rub on face and neck areas needing protection.

HAHAHAHAHA, Patty. That's just what I was thinking too. Poof would TEAR us to pieces if I doused myself in catnip.

Interesting article though Lorrie. I just HATE dousing myself in Deet so it may be an option to try up at Ryan's cabin when the cat is NOT present.

I've seen it before at PetCo. & other pet supply stores. I bought it awhile ago to spray on toys that my cat had lost her interest in. It worked VERRRRRYYYY well.

:)
