Best estimate of size is to look at his parents. I hope you will still love and care for him even if he's not a "big scarey looking dog".

Birdie was 50 lbs at 5 months and she is now 86 lbs at 22 months. Even though that's not huge, people still look at her and say "wow, that's a big dog!" Of course I think she's just perfect and I never cared about how big or small she would be!:)

Ben was adopted at 10 months old, weighing 70 pounds. He is now 4 1/2 yrs old, weighs 83 pounds and believe me...I've seen people cross the road/path when we're out walking. It's not the DOG, it is the confidence the OWNER shows in handling the dog that makes people think twice.

I hope that if he's not a big scary looking dog that you'll love him anyways. He certainly deserves everything you can give him, even if he's not big and scary looking!

Brodie is 2 and weighs approx. 110lbs. I have had people ask what he weighs and many are very surprised when I tell them. Most think he weighs at least 130-140lbs.

Bigger dogs can mean more problems structurally, so be careful for what you wish for . Alot of rotties are oversized now, americans like everything bigger (my own dogs are oversized and i have or had females, smallest is 92lbs). Ive been lucky with no real joint or bones problems (but i did lose 2 to osteo). But if i ever get a rottie that ISNT someone's throwaway or a rescue, I want a male no more then 90lbs.

Kodi is almost three years old and weighs about 100 pounds. I am very careful to keep him looking trim and fit.....He is not as big as I thought he would be, but to other people he is huge.....:)

It is funny how much bigger everyone thinks our dogs are. Mine is a 16-month old male. He's 25" and weighs 109 pounds - I need to get some more weight off of him - he had a growing spurt and I switched to Canidae so we've had to make adjustments. I hope he doesn't go over 115.

At 5 months he still has room for growth. And though there is no real "advantage" in having an oversized dog, you sound like part of you actually wouldn't mind him being too big. Better he be the right size and weight. Generally speaking he'll live longer and you can enjoy him more.

I've had the same comments - my biggest dog is right around 100lbs and so many people ask if he's 30-40lbs more than that!
I wouldn't want one much larger either.

My female is about 41 pounds now at 2 days over 4 month. I wonder sometimes as well how big she is getting. She looks skinny to me. But the vet said she is just the way she is suppose to be. Nice hourglass shape.

I've a large old boy I adopted last year . 115lb with a broad frame but we are working on getting down to 110lb as I'd like to see him a touch on the leaner side.

My 10 1/2 mth pup is small . 70lbs is all but man is this little thing a speed demon !!!! I've decided he's just too busy speeding around to grow . :) He's very lean . He's got none of the broadness that the old guy has (or that many rotts have ). I know he'll fill out some but he'll never be a big rott . For a while that bugged me ( mostly because of comments from people that met him about him being small ) but now I've accepted he's going to be whatever size his genes determine . His parents were both large but Henry looks like he'll have a large personality with a small/medium rottie body :D
We just have to remember to enjoy our dogs for what they are and not what we think they should be . It took me a while to get there with all the 'small rottie' comments and the personal wish for a large rott for carting work .
Great things come in small packages !!!!!

If ever I can get that speed focused I bet this little boy will ace at agility :D :D :D

From what I've seen and experienced, laying on any "bulkiness" comes after they're 18 mo. old. They can appear a bit lean before then. It depends on the line.

My girl, put on about 8 lbs since last spring. And you guys are right. Most people over-estimate weight. Maybe because ther're so solid looking. My girl is 82 lbs and people who "guess" often have her at 120! Go figure.

Zack is 17 month old and weighs about 91 lbs, he is 26" tall so he doesn't seem big. Peolpe doesn't think he is a rottie because he look so slim, they think he is a Dobermann lol. Some people think they know a lot about dogs but to say a Rottie looks like a Dobbie, is just weird. It is just like people me that my boyfriends that his Pitbull is a Boxer.
