How to measure a rott's height

How do you measure a rottwelier's height and what is average for a female at 11 months and a male at 1 yr?Also my 11 month is at 72 lbs and my male is at 83 lbs he's a bit thin in the hind legs and butt he's got a nice broad look to him he needs to gain weight because I saved him from a family who wasn't feeding him they let him run and he was very thin I could feel his spine and see his ribs too when I first got him makes me sick these people did this and also they used sucky hartz flea spray on him and he developed a skin irritation that caused thousands of little bumps ALL over his skin! I got that taken care of hes looking much better just wish he could get some more weight on him.He eats fine I feed him 3 times a day right now he's on purina but ordered some Flint River Ranch I heard great thigs about it. Are there any types of maybe diseases or disorders that would cause a dog to not gain weight? I did not see any presence on any parasites (worms in stool) I had a case of parvo about 3 yrs ago and I know the signs on parvo and he was tested not long after I got him so it's not that ither.I've had him for about 2 1/2 months now.

You measure them at their shoulder. We used a measuring stick to measure our puppies. Akasha is 23" and weighs 72 pounds (she will be a year old on the 30th of this month). Keil is 27 1/2" and weighs 95 pounds (as of yesterday) and will also be a year old on the 30th. Keil needs to gain another 5 -10 pounds. He lost weight while Akasha was in heat and is slowly gaining it back.

Keil is a large puppy and we are hoping that he won't get any taller but will just continue to fill out.

How tall are your puppies? It sounds like they are at a good weight, although it is hard to tell, not knowing how tall they are.

Luvs,

Thanks for replying! Sheba my 11 month old rott I didn't measure her as of yet. Harley my 1 yr old I got about 24 inches on him in height. Your rott @ 27 inches that's HUGE! Here's a link to my page with pics. Do you have any pics of your rotties? I like to look at pics. :-)

This is not an ad is a link with pics of my rottweilers

It's hard to tell an average, since there's such a difference in growth rates - yours will probably gain an inch or two in height, yet. Their weights seem fine - it can take some dogs up to 3 years or so to fill out.

I see that everyone has answered WHERE to measure; I still haven't figured out HOW! Ocean and Blaze are so facinated with the tape measure and what the heck I am doing just outside of their line of vision that they twirl around and around trying to see/grab/taste the thing. I tried for 10 minutes and still don't have any idea how big they are!

I stand a dog against a wall and lay a pencil across the withers to make a mark on the wall. I suppose having them stand on a hard level surface helps with accuracy - then I just measure from floor to the mark.

Here is a link to a past post where there are photos that tell you how to measure and at what part of the withers (not shoulder) to measure from.

Hope this helps,
