Rott sleeps thru burglary

There was a local news story a few evenings ago about a brazen robber that broke into several houses that were occupied. The family being interviewed said they had out of town company and that there were people sleeping on the sofa and the floor. The robber stole two purses that were right next to the sleeping women. The homeowner joked about his "guard" dog and how impressed the robber must've been. Then they cut to a clip of the rotti stretched out on a sofa and snoring quietly....

The topic is "Are Rottweilers Protective?". The topic is not "what is your opinion of the replies in this thread?". Please stay on topic.

This is o true. People ask me why I own firearms. My reply, "To protect my family and Rottie if someone should break in". As for the statement in one of the provided link "Usually loyal to one person in the household", yeah, the person that is closest to the treat cabinet.

The Rolls Royce of guard dogs?? Hmmm...I don't think so, at least not Ben...he's little...he's more like the 'Mini Cooper' of guard dogs. Small, yet effective. I don't expect him to protect me. I hope I'm never in a situation where I have to find out if he WILL protect me...I'm not a person to put myself or my dog in a situation like that...

I would put more stock in the real world experience of some of the more qualified owners such as some of the ones on this forum that work with many dogs on a daily basis and actually know the reality of the natural protection issue than most web sites. I say most because I'm sure there are many very accurate ones such as the American Kennel Association. When you think about it, it's actually irresponsible and dangerous to propagate false claims about a dog that could result in a rude awakening some dark night when all of a sudden you are left holding the leash facing a gun or a knife watching your dog make a B line for the nearest exit. The detterance factor of a dog like a Rottweiler is all you should really ask for. Be prepared to protect yourself, and your rottweiler if things go beyond that.
