| Mentally, physically, sexually???? Physically, my family of Rottweilers are not fully bodied out until about 4 years of age. Mentally, I don't believe any of them are truly settled in until about 3. If by sexual maturity you might mean when they are able to reproduce, it can be quite young, but that doesn't mean they are adults. |

| Judi, I meant physically when they stopped growing in size. I was guessing around 2 yrs but I will take your word for it. Also since I got a reply when do puppies kinda get out of the chewing stage my 11 month old chews on wood for pete sake I get her raw hide and some of the toughest chew toys and bones to try and keep her away from wood and other objects I just wish she'd listen better she's pretty stubburn at times but has a great temperment wouldnt hurt a fly and also wondering one little thing none of my dogs seem real protective. For example if a dog comes into the yard or a person they will bark and sound firoucious (probably mispelled it) but I like a guard dog they will then go to the dog and seem extremely friendly now I'm not wanting any of my dogs to bite but if it came down to it if someone were attacking me or a member of my family I do not know if they would try to protect me.They are great intemidators I know this from many experiences and I seen someone post that people can and will in your neighborhood give u a hard time if you have rottweilers and they sure do many people are scared to death to even come here and have had a few calls to the local animal control because people are just scared if they come here they will get hurt but I know my rotts very well and they will lick you and get excited to almost anyone! None have ever shown any signs of aggression towards strangers. It saddens me and angers me that people will jump to the conclusion that if they look mean then they are! Many people are not knowledged about big agressive, masculant looking dogs and the rotts have to be in the top five if there was a category to fit these descriptions.I believe its how u raise your rott just like any pet to not be mean and to have a good temperments towards all things humans, other pets etc. I also think people just like to give me a hard time too where I live I am the only one in my community that has rottweilers and my rotts live with 8 cats (I breed tradtional siamese cats and this is not an ad) they are very gentle and loving and very playful, full of energy and bright! :) If I have to post my questions in the bahavior forum I can I forgot what forum I was in I just started blabbing ..hehehehe. |

| (I meant physically when they stopped growing in size. I was guessing around 2 yrs but I will take your word for it.) Judi is correct. Somewhere between 3-4 seems to be pretty average for most lines. I know of some dogs that peek at 5 and just look super. (Also since I got a reply when do puppies kinda get out of the chewing stage my 11 month old chews on wood for pete sake I get her raw hide and some of the toughest chew toys and bones to try and keep her away from wood and other objects I just wish she'd listen better she's pretty stubburn at times) The easiest way to stop her from chewing on wood is to remove the wood. If that's impossible, crate the dog or section her off behind a baby gate in a room where she cannot access it. Do not give rawhide unless it's compressed and only if you are watching her still. Regular soup bones, marrow bones from the butcher (RAW! Don't cook them) are perfect. These come with a word of caution though as dogs typically consider these "high value items." Mine get them in their crates. They are not allowed to just wander around the house with them. That invites a whole bunch of trouble. As they begin to work the meat off, you can put peanut butter down in the centers. You can freeze it for a tasty treat that will take her quite a while to finish. ( but has a great temperment wouldnt hurt a fly ) She's only 11 mo old - a puppy. Puppies are typically quite social. This is just a stage she is in and while she may always be wonderful right now, don't be surprised if you wake up one morning to suddenly find your pup now as a rather high opinion of herself and no longer resembles the cute little girl you saw the night before. (and also wondering one little thing none of my dogs seem real protective. For example if a dog comes into the yard or a person they will bark and sound firoucious (probably mispelled it) but I like a guard dog they will then go to the dog and seem extremely friendly now I'm not wanting any of my dogs to bite but if it came down to it if someone were attacking me or a member of my family I do not know if they would try to protect me.) They probably won't protect you if push comes to shove. Don't rely on them to protect you, you protect them. Their looks alone are often all the deterrent anyone needs to stop their advance on you or your property. (but I know my rotts very well and they will lick you and get excited to almost anyone! None have ever shown any signs of aggression towards strangers.) Behaviors in dogs vary from day to day, minute to minute. Just because they have never shown aggression before doesn't mean they are 100% trustworthy. No dog is. You must always be on your guard and be in a position to exercise control over your dogs, and to be able to read them well. It's your responsibility to make sure they are safe citizens of your community. If people are frightened, your well mannered, obedience trained Rottweilers will help eleviate their fears. (I believe its how u raise your rott just like any pet to not be mean and to have a good temperments towards all things humans, other pets etc.) Partially. Much of it has to do with good genetics too. Temperament is hereditary.
