Should I be concerned?

My rott is 7 months old now and is about 90-95 pounds. I'm starting to get concerned because he doesn't really walk straight. When he walks it looks like he has something stuck up his butt because his back end moves side to side instead of straight. I plan on making an appointment at the vet but I just want some temporary relief if anyone knows about this. I'm just scared of hi displaysa.

Have you discussed his gait with his breeder? Read the thread that Brooke posted there's a lot of good info there.

LOL - the Rottie waddle. :)

RJS30 - your pup seems really large for his age! Even if he's a super-sized Rottie, do NOT let him get overweight, especially while he's growing fast. You should be easily able to feel every rib. Extra weight can be tremendously hard on growing bones & joints.

Just FYI, and I may be off base.

You may want to do a search on hip dysplasia in the vet forum. I believe he'd be sore and stiff at times if he had HD. A friend had an Akita with very bad hips - he had a total hip replacement. They got him from the pound at about 7 months old, and he had a hard time getting up even then. That's how they found out he had practically no hip sockets.

He lived to be 11 years old though!
