Drop N Flops

They're a bean bag idea. They have removable nylon covers that can be washed and are resistant to ripping.

Anyone?

I need to find a dog bed that won't make him too warm or else he just moves back to the middle of the floor.

Hmmmm, I've never heard of Drop N Flops. We've been looking for some kind of bed for Julius which will be just as cool & appealing as the linoleum floor so that he can be on something semi-soft to avoid calluses. I'm interested to see if anyone has had any luck w/ them too.

Thanks!
:)

Says it "reflects" back body heat, not absorbs it. That means it will certainly not substitute for a nice cool floor where the dog can move a bit as it becomes warm.

More like a marketing device. If you dog chooses the cool floor it is because the dog has determined that at that time, it is what feels good. Calluses are not detrimental.

I know that the caluses are not detrimental....I was just hoping to aviod them somehow. I thought this might be a good option.

Might indeed be a good option, but the only way I know of keeping a dog sleeping on something is to put it in their crate with them and close the door. Even then I see dogs who will manage to stuff the bed aside so they can lie on the cooler surface. A bed does not allow the heat to disapate from the groin, in fact it holds the heat in the body. Humm, I guess put them in a really cold place so they will want to bed to keep from freezing?

Anyone remember those "some kind of husk" filled pillows they had out a few years back? Not supposed to get hot, conform to shape for sleep? I came accross 2 of them recently in the storage closet. I thought "Hmmmm...would make a nice bed for the cat!!" And so it is!;)

I remember those! Didn't buy one of them either....;)

Please, remember, somehow dog people are always looking for a better mousetrap. The sure fire way to make money in dogs is to sell something with the picture of "favorite breed" on it (doesn't matter what kind of silly thing it is), something that promises to make training easier, faster and pain free (for the handler), or a purported but unsubstantiated health benefit sometimes bolstered by anecdotes, sometimes not. Toys that cost ??$$$ when the puppies themselves are delighted with an empty 2 liter pop bottle and a cardboard box or a piece of hose.

Both my "boys" prefer to lie on the hard floor - and no calluses yet.
Maybe just a piece of carpet, or a throw rug where he sleeps?

That dog bed doesn't look any different from 1000 similar beds on the market to me - the array is quite amazing! But like Judi says, much of this stuff is marketed towards peoples' (perceived)needs, not dogs' (actual) needs. ;)

Oh I agree. Parker's favourite toys are plastic pop bottles.

But now that I'm going to be able to give Parker some space in the apartment, I wanted something more 'presentable' for when company comes over. Also, the added advantage of being able to wash it is huge!

I wish I was handy with a sewing machine - I could make this stuff for half of the price. :p

Luna doesn't go for any of the super-cushy stuff because it's just to warm for her. She has something similar to the "Pet Mat" they show in the back of the car. Even with that, sometimes she'll get too hot and move onto the bare floor.

Costco has very nice, large enough for the Rottweilers, zip off covers for washing at about $17. These are excellent beds.

Save your money

Trish;
I would not bother getting a Flop'n'Drop. We had a bed for Bruno in every room because we wanted to encourage him to lay on something soft so that his bad hips would be comfortable.

One of his beds was a Flop'n'Drop....it did well the first year...then the little pellets (it's like a bean bag) started to compress and the bed flattened down considerably
I bought the special pellet replacements...I think over $20. per bag...and I had to add new ones about ever 6 months. I then smartened up:D and went to Walmart and bought foam chips for about $6. a bag. I think I have spent more then $100. on replacement pellets and foam chips...I could have bought a brand new bed:D

I have seen the Costco dog beds and they are a good buy.

With Brandy we just let her use her crate cause she likes the coolness of the bare floor. To help cushion it, we put an old piece of thick carpeting under it. This way the crate floor stays cool enough for her but it not as hard as on a bare flood. Also since one of her crates is on concrete the carpeting doesn't let the cold dampness in, which would be harder on her joints. Face it most of these guys like to keep they're cool. ;)

That settles it. Drop N Flops are a flop on these boards! :D ;) hehehe

I think I'm going to see if I can get into Costco and look at those beds. If not, I'm going to pick up one of those lambskin pads (it's just lambskin and a rubber underpadding). That way it doesn't skid across the floor.

Okay, we don't have a Costco here. Are they basically the same thing as a Sams club?? Do you need a membership to shop there? Just wondering since I'm travelling to NYC this weekend & thought I would take a look around.

Thanks!
