Playing/Exercise after eating?

How long after eating can we play with our puppy? I have heard this makes the possibility of bloat ocurring. In the morning when I feed Zeus, he is so playful right after eating, but I refrain from playing.

An hour or two hours before or after eating. In other words, Don't go for a long walk and come home and feed right away either. If he seems playful in the morning I would play with him first then wait an hour or so then feed him.

I have this conversation with my dog almost daily! She always gets a burst of energy after eating and wants to play.......even at 8-1/2! We wait about 1-1/2 hours before any significant exercise or play, before or after eating. By then I usually have to give her a nudge to wake her up, though! :D

This is what Janosch does too. Sometimes if I won't play with him, and Tasha won't play with him, he just goes out in the yard and has a mad case of the zoomies. It's a riot, but I wish he'd postpone it until two hours after his meals. :D To avoid the post meal madness, I have started the practice of playing with him or doing some OB work with him a few hours before his meal so he's less inclined to get worked up after his meal. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.......Puppies! :D :p :D

If you can't control the zoomies, I would suggest an hour of crate time after each meal. Maybe a good bone or stuffed kong will keep him occupied during this time.

I love it - "zoomies". What a good term for it! I usually get this in the back yard when I let Rocco out when I get home from work! Anyhow, I don't exercise him for 1 hour before and after meals.

Sharon - If he goes into zoomie mode, it's off to the crate for him. Then it's the snories....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Patty - Tasha does this too when I come home. It used to be quite frightening because she's so big and did not appear to have very much control over where her body was taking her!

Oh, yea! Ditto on the frighteningly out of control look! They look like an out-of-control tank with teeth! Kinda the same look they have when they're laying upside down and their ears are flopped back (like a maniacal bat)! If they weren't our babies we'd probably be runnin' for the hills!

Julius has rest about an hour before and an hour after eating. He's usually okay with that since he's such a laid-back guy. :)
