Your vet will be able to tell you what is needed and also provide you with all the neccessary documents/certificates that your dog will need.

Actually, we usually ask the owner to do the calling around to find out what the country's requirements are. Quickest way to obtain results is call the embassy of the country you're going to. There are hundreds of different variations on required paperwork, proof of vaccination, testing, treatment for fleas/ticks etc. for importing into different countries. I recently filled out export papers to Germany, and I believe they have their own required form, as well as the USDA certificate. We always check with USDA and the destination country before sending an animal, to be sure there is no confusion.

Hi Sherri,

When I took Maverick to Germany (and then on to Eritrea, Africa) with me back in 2001, all that was REQUIRED for either country was a Rabies vaccination and a health certificate. The Rabies vaccination had to be given more than a month prior to travel, but not more than a year...the health certificate had to be issued within 10 days of travel. We needed the same thing to return to the US...we stayed for about 6 1/2 months, so the Rabies vax from the US was still good, but I had to get a new health certificate from Eritrea before coming back. I'm sure requirements may have changed in the past couple years, but hopefully that helps. I think to find out what I had to do, I first called the airlines (I was flying on Lufthansa) and they gave me the numbers of the animal people that I needed to call. Good luck and have a GREAT trip (I LOVE Germany and hope to return some day SOON!)!!!

I've had many rescues sent to Germany(they can't find a good home here). The certificate that was required here is a Rabies shot taken more than one month and within 3 mons, absolutely Heartworm disease free. Unfortunately Rottweilers are on the ban list.

What do you mean "on the ban list"? Please explain, as I mentioned, I just had my Rottie through Germany in November 2002...has something changed since then?
Thanks!

Probably meaning airlines won't ship them...along with PitBulls or other so called dangerous dogs.

Good Morning, I apologize I didn't tell you all that this is not a rott, It will be a carry on dog. Where he was first stationed we went to visit, I asked I haven't seen any Rotts, Shepperd's, Dobs, Pitts and they said the housing did not allow those breeds. Now if you lived off housing and the landlords allowed those breeds it was ok. So they opted for a small furkid one that would be allowed. So all the info I have read here I told my son and he is also checking. He said someone he works with does the shipping of pets and he thought they would have all the needed info.
Mavides I can't wait to go, My family doesn't know I will be coming with Pepper It is going to be a surprise for their Christmas.
:D :D Sherri

Hi Mavides
I had the same question when I read your post bc Rott. and some other dangerous breed are not allowed to get through the airport customs. That's why an abandoned pup I rescued last year did not make the trip bc after they saw the pic. were afraid he might have some Rott. bloodline, so he stayed! He is 1.5 yr. old now , happy, gloosy:) with his forever mom-me.:D

When we took Froli to Germany in '99, we only needed a health certificate and proof of rabies vaccines.
