Sleeping through the night

OK, I have just one question...

Who are these pups that sleep through the night at 8 weeks old and where did you get them? :D

I keep reading stories on this forum about people who bring 8 week pups home and comment on how they sleep right through the night and I have to admit, I HATE you! :D LOL. Ok, maybe hate is too strong...envy is much better. :D

All I know is that Disel was up and had to go out every 2 hours when we brought him home. Then he gradually moved to 3 hours, then 5 hours and just stayed at 5 hours for so long. He is now up to 7 hours and I am thanking every God in every religion for this.

We are gearing down for the new pup and I am trying to get as much extra rest as possible in anticipation of those every 2 hour wake up calls in the nice and cold January and February months! :) Brrrrr.......

Is it just me??? :) :D

HA! Rakki slept through the night (sometimes as long as 10 hours) at 10 weeks. He's always been a puppy who understands the value of sleeping in. I have a lot of sympathy for people with "up every couple of hours" puppies, I was prepared for that, but after a few nights of waking up to check and having a sleepy puppy look at me like I had nine heads ("turn that dang light off, mum, I'm tryin' to sleep over here"), I just slept until he woke me up, or until I had to get up. I don't think I've ever had to get up in the middle of the night for him, other than when he had a bout of probable giardia.

I second that! I have never had an 8 week old puppy that slept through the night. And I want to know where these puppies are grown! When I got Janosch, it had been a while since my last puppy (years) so it was quite a shock to remember that I had to leap out of bed every two hours or so to go potty him (you always forget the bad stuff. :) ) Now he's up to about seven hours and I'm thankful for that. :D

Samanthac - I don't envy you those cold trips outside. Brrrrrr is right! Oh, and please post pictures when you get your new puppy.:)

Xena would get up about every 4 hours when she was tiny. I had to go out in the freezing cold with her, but thankfully there wasn't any snow to deal with.

I can't wait when you get your new pup! I am expecting to see lots of pics!!! :D

Maybe you'll get lucky this time and your pup will sleep well at night!

Mojave slept through the night from day one. He was an angel. :)

Kaiya, however, came into the world making sure everyone on the planet is aware when she's unhappy For almost two months this little wench would throw the loudest hissy fits if she were left in a crate in a room where she couldn't see me. From time to time she will still throw a hissy over being crated when she thinks she shouldn't be, but lo and behold the "Hesh up" command was learned and is now obeyed...thank the heavens. :o

sleeping pup

Well i have to add my name to the list of folks with a pup who sleep all through the night. Between weeks 9 and 10 Duce started to sleep the whole night through and has contiued to value his sleep. In fact if we get him up around 9 am he will go to the bathroom, come back inside, and take a nap for an hour or two. He usually doesn't get up for good till around 11:30am. Then he will enjoy a nice brunch:) The funny thing is that he is only 9 months old now. I can't wait to see what he is like at 7 or 8 years old!

I watched my mom's dog for her (before I got Rocky) and she was up at 5:45 every morning. It sounded like she was trying to scratch her way out of the bottom of the crate!!! I like to sleep in as much as I can. And get very mad at who ever desides to wake me up. In fact I stay mad at them for the rest of morining. By mid afternoon I am ok again.

But Rocky will sleep from like 11 p.m. all in the moring and not wake up till NOON! It is wonderful. For the first week we had him he wanted to get up a little earily. But he experienced the wrath of mom...NO I don't have kids. I am just resting up so when we do have kids I will be ready :D

Add me!!

Diesel is being an absolute angel as far as sleeping through the night. I was prepared (mentally sort-of, but not physically!) to get up throughout the night and I had joked with one of our breeders about this. She laughed and said that since she brought him down with his brother, they have been going to sleep at 11pm and getting up at 8am!

We are only 2 nights in, but so far so good.

Roxy however, was horrible in the beginning! She HATED her crate and just whined and whined. We would wake up every few hours to take her out. But now, she'll sleep in til noon on the weekends with us! Hopefully Diesel will learn that trick too!!!

I've had some of each over the years. Egan was awful in his initial crate training, wailed yil Hell wouldn't have it. Gosh, that was a trying time.

But, I've had others that would go to bed around 11pm and be fine until 5 or 6am. Pretty good stint, I thought.

Disel wasn't bad with the crate itself, just having to get up every 2 hours to relieve himself. I wonder what gives one pup more longevity than the other in that area.

Now he generally goes from 11 until 5/5:30. We walk, eat and then he goes back to sleep.

Lucky dog! :)

Well with us being Early Birds really wasn't a choice. It was either that or have a whiny puppy in his crate possibly peeing everywhere.....:p

Luca has been great. After his first night with us, he has slept through every night. He goes to be around 11 and we get up at 6-6:30 to start our day. Now if he would only accept being put in his crate when I go to work without yelping as if he was being tortured, all would be perfect!

I don't know if Chance slept but she was very quiet, never cried. I thought something was wrong with her because I always heard that when you bring a puppy home they cry all night. I was up every couple of hours to check on her and take her out anyway.
