i spoke too soon!!!

Diesel had me up at 3:30 this morning! We knew it was coming though, he would NOT go to the bathroom before we went to sleep. We were out there forever with him and he just wanted to go inside! So, after a couple of tries, and 45 minutes later we went to bed!

And me, not completely thinking straight at 3:30 am tried to look for my flip flops which i had thrown in the closet and couldnt find them in the dark! So, by the time i got him out he had peed in his crate. It was on a towel so it was easy to clean up.

Hopefully tonight I can sleep through the night...if not, it's Vince's turn! :p

Mine always have but then I never jump up and run to the crate every time they turn over, or stretch or snort or make a noise. If you have been doing that, you are training them to want to go out every time they wake up a little. I potty them when I am ready to go to bed and take them out about 5:30 or 6 am.

Loki slept the night through since we brought her home, every once in a while one of the dogs will get us up in the middle of the night, but that's very unusual.

Tiler came to me at 4 Y/O but he's a real bed head. When I get up at 4AM he hardly even cocks an eye at me unless he thinks he's going with me. The wife reports that most days he sacks in until 8 or 9 AM.:)

Maxie was not one of the lucky ones. She was up every 2-3 hours to go potty, or we would wake her up to go potty, I guess this why potty training her was VERY EASY!!! But now she over a year and half and the one thing I don't understand is during the week she will go to bed with me at 10ish and sleep till 9ish (thank god for flex hours!!) and when I wake her to do her business in the AM I get this look like awe mom I sleepy why are you waking me.. But godforbid on Sat and Sun she should sleep in, she is ready to sieze the day at 6:30am... I don't get it. At least she wakes me with kisses.... Still wouldn't trade her for the world:D

I have to think back 11 years, but, do remember, Niki slept though the night at 8 weeks also. She was crated in my bedroom at night. During the day her crate was in the living room. I would take Niki out just before bed, and she would sleep until 7:00 each morning. Then we both would go out to feed and clean stalls.

Our boys would sleep through the night. Xavier was in his crate at night in the kitchen, never wimpered. Now, with Dre, he was the same way. Crated in the kitchen, but for him we also played a radio until he got a little older. Now at 17 mos. he doesn't have to be crated anymore, just has his bed. Our first Rottie, Xavier, was over two years old before we could leave him out of the crate. He always found something to get into.

While I do remember the times I had to get up ONCE during the night, they were short lived. Say, by 12 weeks?

I can't be sure if it was to Sable's own credit, or one of the older dogs. Jazmine (Rott houseguest) ignored Sable as a pup. Mr. Digbee (Cocker Spaniel) slept next to the crate for a couple of nights. When he stopped, she did fine other than needing to relieve herself once.

My advice? Borrow Digbee! I'm sure he's up for the job, sweet fellow that he is...works cheap, too! A few bones, some yummy treats, and a meal, with as much petting as you can stand!

Just have him back by mid March! We're doing it again.

Those of you with Supa Star pups which sleep all through the night - are you saying they didn't need to go to the toilet until you got up in the morning?

I am getting my 8 week old pup tomorrow and can't imagine her not wanting to go to the loo in the middle of the night. I used to get up a couple of times in the night with my last puppy. It would be so good if Teazle turns out to be one of those Supa pups.

I don't know if I would call my two "Supa pups", but I neve got up during the night to let them out. I always cut out food and water at a certain time, and let them out one last time before I went to bed. Worked for me. Do I have supa pups, or was I just lucky?:D

Nope...never had a nightime accident in the crate. Like Rob75, dinner was at 6 (close to) and water stopped at maybe 8 or 9 if memory serves.

We toileted her at bedtime (usually 10-11) and she was out at about 6am, then ready for breakfast. No we're not earlybirds...we both work.

Good luck with Teazel!!

Nope didn't do that either as I was not about to get into that. :) He really HAD to go and if I did not let him out he'd make a mess in his crate...he was not shy about letting me know he had to potty from day 1. As soon as he go, he'd go right back in his crate and go to sleep.

I wonder why he couldn't hold it that long...and yes, I was careful about overwatering the little guy.
