| everything hes got she wants Hi there just thought id see if anyone out there has been through this, we bought our new boy Neo home he is 12 weeks, and he and Indy are getting on great they play alot and even we become their toys at times Neo will sit in our laps and play from there big chicken , any way Indy will be playing with her toys dosent matter which one and Neo will start playing with a piece of paper and Indy just has to get up and take it from him.She does however share her toys too... for instance she has a piggy that makes a grunting sound when you squeeze it, she will take it to him and get him to grab the other side of it and then the tug begins, she dosent tug very hard but enough for a game.. Puppies aye dont u just love em :D |

| hum...I haven't been through this but here is the first thing that popped in my mind. She might be showing him that she is boss. Or, she might be wanting to play tug with him. hum....just a suggestion on what I think.....Although i do know that female dogs are more dominate over malesNow if our huspands would act the same way.... ![]() :D :D :D

| Sounds like she is a bitch:D You do know that all toys belong to Indy don't you? She is teaching the pup that she is in charge of the dog things. These are very important lessons for the pup to learn. She may even growl and snarl at the pup when he is getting full of himself and think that he can just take whatever he wants. Don't interfer unless she has shown that she is willing to take chuncks of his flesh. It is all show and noise. Have fun with them both!

| Whle allowing Indy to be the boss is all fine and good and dandy, you do know now that in the future it will have to be watched, as she has proven this point to you. Also if the pup is laying quiety chewing a bone or something and she tries or does take it away, you can not allow it. At some point the pup will be bigger and decide enough is enough. Sharing toys is one thing but if she constantly takes what she wants from him it could lead to resource guarding. Enjoy them playing tug and "sharing" toys, but do not allow her to continually "steal" things, especially if he is laying and quietly entertaining himself. Enjoy the puppy. |

| Have another couple of questions...... we have had one rottie before and 2 are different... point taken on the stealing thing if he is just happily entertaining himself...and will just let them tug till hearts contend. When she is lying on the ground just being quite he runs up to her and tackles her head and starts biting her...and humping her.....(we stop him from humping) then she starts playing rough cause he started it then he lets out a yelp.. what should we do in this situation? I know there are loads of knowledgable people on this board and i have learnt alot but not sure about this one... Thanks Cat |

| I would bet that his yelp is from her telling him enough already. As long as she is not hurting him, and if he leaves her alone and she leaves him alone afterwards I wouldn't worry about it. Watch how rough they are playing, if it seems to be too much, calm them down and start them onto a new game. Ours occassionally get a little too rough with one another, and usually a yelp suffices and they stop the game themselves. If they try to escalate it, I step in and put an end to it, which is very seldom. I also have prevented my pup from constantly pestering my older dog. If the older dog needs a break, I make sure they get it! Or if they are being peaceful an dI see the pup coming, I try and reroute the energy elsewhere. All dogs deserve to have time off from each other. |

| This is very familiar to me as Raven was the same with Brandy when she was a pup. Raven was nearly two years old when I got Brandy. She also was an only dog for 1 1/2 years so got real spoiled and everything was just hers. At first she was almost like a mother to Brandy. She would pick up toys and go to Brandy and expect her to tug it with her. Yet she would make sure she was the one that kept the toy. It was cute then but after Brandy got older it's not so cute. Brandy can't have any toys. Raven has to have them all. The only time Brandy can play with toys is when Raven is outside and she is in the house. Brandy is really so cute when she does get toys because she will pick up two at one time. I guess she just wants to take advantage of it while she can. Anyway, when she does get these toys she seems to be so very cautious looking about it. She's likely thinking Raven will come along at any time and take them away which she sometimes will. Raven loves to have you throw a ball and she catch it. I can't get anywhere with Brandy with this. I can throw her a ball and she will just sit and wonder what I'm doing. This too I think is because she thinks Raven will take it from her. As for food hogging, I have no problem there. If I had known this type of behavior was going to happen after Brandy got older then I would have done more to stop Raven's selfishness long ago. Just some info for you to think about now while you still have the ability to stop what I now know is bad behavior. Good luck.
