My male rottie Jazz is 29 inches tall and weighs in at a trim and lean 110 lbs. He does not have a stocky build. The estimates of his weight by strangers have been as high as 200 lbs but most seem to think he weighs about 140 - 150 lbs. They don't want to believe me when I tell them his actual weight!

Looks too Skinny

The irony in this is that my experience with my 9 month old male is the opposite. He is real tall and lanky, but on the UPS scale at my work he just weighed in at 101 pounds. He does not look like he weighs that much, but that scale is calibrated weekly.

On his check up the other day at the vet. I was told he is growing at a great pace, since he is on the lean side. But as most of us have experienced...I was told by some all knowing co-workers he is going to weigh at least 200 pounds I responded with, I sure hope not...He's not a Rockwelder:D

My male rottie weighed 130 last time he was at the vet for his shots. He is very tall (30 inches at shoulders - really) but definately not fat. He still has the young adult lankyness about him but could get wider with age if we don't monitor him.

My female rottweiler is fat. She is really petite but at 84 pounds is definately fat. So I agree weight does not determine if a dog is fat.

It's interesting how people are so interested in the idea of bigger being better. The first thing everyone asks me when they see my male is "holey, how much does that dog weigh?" I seem to think the opposite and always joke about my male that his curse is how he was born big. His size is why people are scared of him, why people scowl and say nasty things to me when I walk him, and why he had 3 different owners who couldn't take care of him before I got him at age 2 even though he is a total clown.

I saw the cutest rottweiler puppy the other day and the owner stopped to ask me what I feed my male because he wants his puppy to get that big. needless to say his attitude made me mad.

los1...that is right. Breed standards must be kept. Just as with people, there are always exceptions to the rule...large muscular people, who come from average parents. What need to be done is make the "huge" Rottweiler, not the desired model.
