I need a quick insurance company questioned answered.....

I received notice that my homeowners company will be doing a property inspection. I have Shelby Vesta and live in Pennsylvania. Does anyone know if Shelby has breed restrictions. My wife and I are worried they are going to tell us we can't have the dog. Even though PA has laws against this sort of thing, they can just find another reason to drop you.

I don't live in PA but couldn't the dog be on "vacation" that day? :)

If your insurance company will not insure you because you own a rottweiler, find another one. Contact State Farm - as far as I know, they have no breed restrictions anywhere. I know they do not in CT - our agent met and brought treats for our five dogs - he loved 'em!

It's a poor decision to not tell your agent you have a rottweiler - what happens if that dog is involved in something at the home?? You could lose the dog and your home, and more. Better to disclose owning the dog and be ready to 'shop around' for coverage if present company does not insure homes with rotties.

Of course. I hope you know I was just being facetious. ;) I have had no problems with my carrier and they've always known about my dogs.

This whole thing just has me ticked off. I don't know what Shelby's stance is on Rotties and will be calling my agent on Monday as a "shopper" for coverage and see what the official position is. This coupled with some other concerns that are going on with us, had me to the point where I started tearing up thinking that someone would try to force me to get rid of a family member. I already lost one Rottie this past June to bad health, I don't need to loose one to some legal racketeering organization.

Rob, my husband owns his own insurance agency in the state of PA. He said if you call him directly he can help you. If you PM me I will give you our home number. He will be home until 8:15 and then not until 10 p.m.

Nice to meet you

Hi Rob, I also live in Pa. and we have StateFarm, no problem at all and we've had rotties since the early 80's. Take Samantha up on her offer, she's more then willing to help:D . She lives about 15 minutes from us and Allentown is about 40 minutes so you're pretty close too:D . Don't worry it will all be worked out.

Judy

I have bad luck with insurance companies. NOONE will cover me where I live due to the fact that I have a rottie. Even Statefarm. I just hope and pray nothing ever happens.:(
I thought that was against the law??

I just called StateFarm and they said you couldn't have a guard dog. Which means Rotties-even rottie mixs!!! That makes me so mad!!!!

I live in Kansas-that rule is so stupid!

They're not guard dogs unless they have been trained to be guard dogs. Based on those idiots theories about guard dogs, they should be banning chihuahuas and poodles.

I agree with you on that. people don't realize it, but they are stereo-typing dogs just as high schoolers stereo-type each other! you know the preps, druggies, football players, ect.

I found someone who wil take me. As long as there is no bite history they are fine with any breed. State Farm , but they are in growth management mode right now, so there is a waiting list in my area. Samantha I will still be calling to hear your husbands input. Just not tonight. I woke up at 1 o'clock this morning with this on my mind, and I have been up ever since. This really had me bummed out, and my mind was in overdrive thinking of what I could do. Thank you everyone for your help.

Rob I am so sorry to hear that you are so upset over this. Before you go with State Farm, call Steven he can definitely help!!! SF is not the only company that will take Rotties. There have been a couple of breed policy reversals as of late.
