Congrates on the new puppy .Get plenty of chew toys for he will be chewing everything.I have a 12 week old and he's doing great as far as crate trainning and bathroom. The crate works great for the bathroom training .If I'm not playing with him or someone else he goes back in the crate then when he gets out we go right outside.well good luck and people here are very friendly and give great advice so you will hear much more and more detailed info.

The words crate and cage are interchangeable, and which one you get is a matter of personal preference. I use a midwest wire crate. Since you are getting a puppy, you might want to get a large crate with a divider panel that you can move to make the crate larger as your puppy grows.

| Hi there! Both Nutro & Canidae are good foods - check out the Nutrition forum. You can do a search on puppy food or whatever - check the training forum for the toilet training thread on top of the list too. :) Go to your local bookstore or buy online: Rottweilers For Dummies. Fantastic book, tons of info for the whole life of your dog! Definitely...

Good for you. I have a whole list of things having just been through this a long time ago. 1. Carrier to pick him up in ...I got the 40-lb size Vari kennel to start with and used it for car transport as well. 2. collar 3. leash 4. food and water bowls...the expandable ones that raise as they grow are wonderful 5. puppy shampoo - you're going to need this ALOT in the beginning :D It is much gentler than regular shampoo 6. X-pen - not necessary, but very nice to have when you want to take him outside for a while and let him romp 7. crate and crate divider - buy the size crate you will need when pup is full grown. Buy a divider panel to make the space smaller and increase as he grows. (hint: the more space you leave, the more tempted he will be to toilet in his crate. 8. food - even if you plan to switch him later you should have two to three weeks worth of food that the breeder is feeding him on hand 9.puppy treats 10.Chew bones - Nylabone makes a very nice puppy pack. The Gumabones are very nice for pups 11. toys - a ball,a tug and a stuffed toy or two are usually good to start with. Remember to make playtime ineractive and to remove the toys when playtime is over 12. a veterinarian - you'd be surprised how many people forget to line up a veterinarian prior to getting their pups. He should be checked a day or two after you get him home 13. Books!!! - Here are a couple must haves: Rottweilers for Dummies by Richard Beauchamp - AWESOME book) Training your Rottweiler by Barb McNinch The Proper Care of Rottweilers - By Joan Klem The CUlture Clash by Jean Donaldson I could name 10 other books, but that should get you started. 14. clippers get him started on having his feet handled and nails clipped very early and it should alleviate problems later on down the line 15. PATIENCE 16. a sense of humor 17. PATIENCE 18. a trainer/training classes lines up 19. PATIENCE Ok I think that's it...hey, did I mention patience? :D LOL! Oh yes, and be sure to come here often and ask questions. The best way to learn is from others and we have a heck of a lot of experience on this board! ;) Have fun and good luck!

Hey Wanta! I am in the same boat right now, and I am opting for the Midwest lifestyles crate. It comes with a divider and you can get the 48" crate (which is huge) for $89 or less, which to me seems like a great deal. Good luck! Joe
