Man we have some talented dogs here! Very cute stuff!

Sable does it both ways. Mostly a normal not too low squat. Then there's the "just smelled someone interesting here" on THIS TREE...slight squat and leg lift.

maverick doesn't lifts his leg to pee on anything but he will just lift it for the sake of lifting...sometimes he'll lift one leg and then the other while he's going. other times he squats.

when we're out for walks, i don't let him mark at all and will correct him when he tries. but he's gotten to be very sneaky at this... he'll pee as he's walking and unless i'm paying close attention, i won't even notice what he'd doing until it's too late.

One of mine lifts his leg all the time. The other only when he is peeing on something.

One of mine lifts his leg when he poops! He will even do a slow walk alternating which leg is lifted as he poops.

Silly dogs.

Akasha squats very low and almost touches the ground. Keil finally started lifting his leg on the day he turned 9 months old. He lifts his leg very high while peeing on his front legs (although sometimes he misses ) I swear sometimes he lifts his leg so high he looks like he is about to tip over

Yup, sounds like Ben!! Carina - Ben also does the 'back leg kick' thing - like a little dance - especially if he's peeing over a spot that our other male has already 'hit'. Kind of like a "Ha ha - I pee'd over your pee!" king of thing!. It's funny to see him do it!

It's hilarious! I have to watch the boys though - they are both pretty enthusiastic about doing this and will put big gouges in nice lawns and landscaping. I don't let them mark on our neighborhood walks, just when we're out in the park or open spaces.

Wook just does a normal squat, but my sister has a Weim who only lifts his leg when he's in "public", at the dog park, etc. Can't pee like a girl in front of other dogs.

Hannah squats and sometimes scoots up a little bit mid-pee. She lifts her leg to mark.

Ocean squats about halfway and pees with an agonized expression, rolling her eyes as if to say "What is someone SEES me dong this?"

Blaze lifts a leg also very high, I am sure he will overbalance and tip over too!

Most males will lift a leg as they start to mature. Part of the territory marking, trying to get the odor of urine(pheromones) as high as possible to allow the wind to carry the scent farther. This is along the lines of feet scratching to mark. Though with feet scratching it is the secretion of pheromones through the pad of the feet. This can also apply to females.

My boy, Rocco, started out lifting his FRONT leg! By the time he was about six months, he finally figured out he was supposed to lift a back leg!
