ortho crate mats

Does anyone else use these wonderful things? Once I found out that Blaze was 7 (not 4), I bought an orthopedic crate mat for him - and one for Ocean too (didn't want any preferential treatment perceived...).

As soon as I got home with them, I lay them on the floor to find a scissor to cut the tage off, and when I tuned around, Ocean was sprawled blissfully on both. I had to haul her furry little butt off them just to get them in the crates. Both dogs love them, they make the crates much cozier (and QUIETER). And - wonder of wonder - Miss Ocean, who has always hated going into her crate no matter HOW many goodies she got in there, suddenly LOVES her crate and naps in there all the time!

Best $90 I ever spent! And Blaze obviously is more comfortable, I can tell by the position he sleeps in before/after the ortho mat.

Haven't heard of ortho mats in Australia. Would you mind describing them for me.

I got them at Petco, they also have them in the Petsmart catalog (no Petsmart stores near here).

It's basically the same kind of egg-crate-foam that is used under bedridden patients to prevent bedsores, cut to standard crate sizes. It has a zipped washable cover, fleece on one side and water-resistant nylon on the other. It really is a great thing, and another bonus - the dogs sleep longer and sounder on them!

Thanks Ocean, if I am able to buy the egg crate foam I can sew up a cover for the mats. They sound great.

Glad to help! I just found these to be so great, I wanted to share with everyone. Their crates are so cozy, *I* want to curl up in them! I also am thinking that someday when we are ready to make the transition from crated to crateless, it will be a big help because we can place the mats on the floor and they will have a specific spot to sleep. But that day is still far off...
