I had a wonderful female growing up, Barroness,so Rottweiler's were all I knew.

My girlfriend and I had been discussing the idea of a new dog, and one of her clients was going to be having a litter of Labs. I thought ok, as my brother and one of my sister's had labs, but my heart really was not into it.

Well a month or two passed and I had started reading up on the Rotty breed to re-familiarize myself. She went with her mom to visit a freind and out walks this gorgeous femal Rott, with a very sweet personality. Michelle, my girl friend, inquired as to where she came from and so on. The breeders name and number was given.

We contacted them, and they replied, "My gosh, how did you know we, that we just had a litter". As fait would have it, we set up a time to meet, and would be the first to even know about this litter. In the meantime I was very happy to see their breeder name, and some of their Rott's in quite a few of the books I had purchased.

The day came, and we went up into the high mountains to find the most incredible breeding area. From an air conditioned and heated weening room, to the meticulously kept kennels, I was very impressed. Before we were allowed to see any of the Rotts, we were given a very thorough interview. It was wonderful to see how much they cared about the breed and their animals. We proved to be credible owners and met Happy, Cooper, and all 6 of the puppies.

We were interested in a male, and had two to choose from. If I had the time and money I would have bought all 6 puppies, or at least both males. One was a bit larger, with a great stop, short muzzle, and gorgeous markings. I was hold both up by my face and one of them began making little grunting sounds and started to chew on my goatee. Well, that was it. That was the bigger of the two, and the pick of the litter.

We keep in touch with the breeders quite a bit, and they are very helpful with our blessing, Mr. Zeus. He chose us, and every day has been a joy. I would say that he is much bigger than his brother, 100 pounds compared to 78. Maybe its his great big heart:D

My first Rottie, Xavier, I got from a BYB. Didn't know anything about them at the time. He was just sitting in the pen looking at me while the others were jumping all over the place trying to get out to me. He was a great dog. It totally broke my heart when I had to put him to sleep this year just 8 days before his 9th birthday.
Dre we got last July. My brother had gotten him froma breeder then two weeks later received orders to Saudi Arabia. So we took Dre in to watch. My brother came back this March and spent 3 weeks with us, then took Dre back to Virginia. Things didn't work out to well and plus the war was just getting ready to start. My brother wasn't going to have the time to take care of Dre. Plus he knew that Dre really missed Xavier. So I drove from Pennsylvania to Delaware and my brother drove from Virginia to Delaware, where he gave me Dre for keeps.

I found Rogue, our Shepard mix, after I fell asleep on the train ride home. I woke up 3 stops past mine, and had to walk back. It was late, and walking along the tracks, I saw a dog roaming around. I called him, and he came! He had no collar on. Well, he followed me those 3 stops. When I tried to get him to come to my truck, he took off :( I tried to find him, but couldn't . I felt so bad because I probabaly got this dog lost from his home, if he had one. This all happened in October.

Three months later, one of our cars was broken down, so my girlfriend had to drop me off at the train. While waiting for the train, I spotted that dog! I told my gf, and she couldn't believe it. This little guy had survived on the streets for 3 months in some nasty conditions, like a 8 inch snowfall. Well, we scooped him up into he truck, and she took him home. When I got home from work, we took him to the vet and animal shelter to see if he was lost. No one was looking for him, or claimed him, so we've had him ever since. That was almost 5 years ago.

For Zeus, I was working at a truck parts store. One of my co-workers knew a mechanic that was loosing his lease on the garage, and wanted to get rid of his dogs. I said I'd take a look. Well, he had 2 rotties, and since I lived in a condo, taking both wasn't an option. He was so dirty, cover head to paw in dirt, grime and dust. They had a chain as his leash. He was about 8 months old, and pretty big already. After a couple hours of getting acquainted and playing, I put him in the truck. He layed in the passenger seat with his head in my lap the whole way home. We've had Zeus for about 2 years now.
I wish every day that I had taken Zeus' brother home with me that day too, but there just wasn't room, and the association wouldn't like it much either. If we had the house we have now, we'd have 2 rotties and the shepard mix.

I told my then boyfriend, now husband that I wanted a dog. I had been to the SPCA to check out a few but never could find a match. We were visiting his family in the sticks of east Texas and had driven to the nearest "big" town to go to Wal-Mart. In the parking lot was a guy with a sign that said "free puppies". I told Cedric, "let's just go look." Mistake. He had about 4 or 5 puppies. Cedric has experience with dogs, I don't so I let him pick. He picked up a speckled looking dog named "Freckles". The 3 or 4 year old daughter of the man giving the puppies away howled at the top of her lungs, "no not Freckles!!!!". Freckles was out. Ced was drawn to the black and brown puppy who looked nothing like the others. She was kind of hanging back in the corner. He picked her up, she licked him. We put her down and went into Wal-Mart. I asked him what he thought. He said she was a great dog, great temperment. We walked around Wal-Mart and I told him I wanted her. He said OK (not his problem anyway we weren't living together). We put in our cart a crate, bowl, food, leash, toys, flea and tick shampoo--the works. We walked around some more and I said "this is too impulsive, let's just wait, we'll find the right dog at the SPCA eventually" We got to the checkout line and I was hanging back. Cedric who even then knew me really well, went back to the pet aisle and re-stocked our cart with all the puppy supplies. We went back to the parking lot and took her back to Ced's grandmas. She was a perfect little lady. That was two years ago. Last November we added Toby to our family. We got him from the North Texas Humane Society. We cannot imagine life without the two of them. I recently posted pics of Toby from the Humane Society--I have no idea why I had to have this dog. He looked a mess. I don't even know why I took him out of the crate--we were looking for a big dog like a Mastiff. All Iknow is that once I got him in the "get to know you room" he was all I could think about. Toby is the BEST dog ever. Funny, sweet, affectionate and smart. I look at the picture from the day I took him home from the pound and now--I can't believe it is the same dog.
