Thought I'd share a funny story.Typical Rott

Hi everyone.
A kind of funny story happened the other day,and I thought I'd share.First off since we don't allow Rocky to climb the stairs anymore so the wife will sleep on the couch in the L. Room so he knows she's OK and doesn't whine all night.Rocky 80% of the time will sleep on the Loveseat that is directly across from the couch.
Well last week the wife took all of the cushions off the love seat and couch and washed them and let them dry overnight. She put the bare cushions on the love seat.Between the two of them, the pile on the love seat took up the entire thing.Anyone see where this is going yet:D
Well later she goes to sleep and is awoken by a kind of a ffft noise. She rolls over and guess who's standing there:) .She tells him to go away.Few minutes later fffft again.:) Seeing that she is not going to get any sleep this way she start to move over and before she even called him, hop, up comes Rocky!
After about 1/2 hour of nudging and squirming guess who takes over the couch and who winds up on the floor:)
I come downstairs next morning and see the wife curled up on the floor and a big Goofy Rott on his back, legs all up in the air on the couch. He kind of just looks at me upside down for a while then settles back in for another nap.
Just thought I'd share that funny little story with everyone.Rocky is still doing great.Been around 6 mos so far.
Have a good one all.
Derek
P.S. She stays up later then me so no comments about me getting the bed:D

LOL.
Is your wife crate trained? Maybe she needs her own crate (make sure it's not too big so she doesn't go potty in it.) Give her a nice treat and coax her in..."Good Wifey, crate up..." and give her a scritch behind the ears. You may have some whining at first, but she'll eventually come to regard her crate as her own private place.

:D

:D How CUTE!! Not unusual for one to take up the whole bed. Mine tries to beat me to the bedroom so she can have the middle!

funny?

MisterO...

I fail to see the humor in this situation. What you have described, is a willful exhibition of your dog telling your wife that the couch belongs to him..... I think not.

Good luck.

Excuse me, but I don't see any humor in that "funny story" either. Carina43 really has said it all......but you need to read between those lines to understand what she has said. In other words.....who's the dog here? I believe the dog has you all trained real good. Now it's time to reverse the rolls and take charge. I wish you both luck.

Hehe. :)

Yes - I did mean that as gentle satire. It's cute, sure - but Rocky needs his own place to sleep - and not by pushing humans off the couch either.

Sounds like the pup has it's own place to sleep... but it wasn't available.:)

I bet the wife won't let that happen again.:D

While normally I wouldn't let Chase sleep on my bed, (she is a bed hog and FARTS!!!) I think that if she had cancer and I didn't know how long I would have her, I would make exceptions.

Misteroman, enjoy your boy and I hope you thought to get a picture.

Seeing how Rocky probably has less then a month to live we are trying to make his last days the best they can be.Sometimes I'll even sleep downstairs on the floor to be near him as much as possible.
Rocky is very well trained If I came down and would've said get off he would have in a second. Why not let him be comfortable.
Sorry you guys didn't see the humor in this.

I thought it was funny! You can't fight with one of those big Rottweiler butts!!! :D

Did you at least put a BLANKET on your wife or did Rocky take that, too???

:D

I understand completely! I have had previous boys diagnosed with cancer and allowances are definitly made. You want to be with them as much as possible and have them as comfortable as possible with the time that is left. The fact that they would take advantage of this situation is definitely Rott- like. :D

From the time my last Rottweiler was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer until her death 18 days later, she slept in the bed with us every night. Normally she slept in the kitchen with our mixed breed dog, but we wanted her with us as much as possible. Gosh, I still miss that dog so much. Our two current Rotts don't get near the bed, or the furniture; they sleep in crates or on the carpet beside the crate. If misteroman and wife are not having any other behavior problems with Rocky, I'd be inclined to give them a pass.

Misteroman-

It seems to me that those who responded to your post as if it was a discipline rather than a medical issue might not have said what they did if in your first post you had made it clear that the reason you don't let Rocky climb the stairs anymore was that he had terminal cancer and only a short time to live.

Now, I believe, they do understand that your wife (and you) wants to spend all the time she can near him while he is still with you.

I slept on the floor alongside Thor, and recently Sienna, on their last nights before loosing them to cancer. The memories of my closeness to them in their pain and hugging them through their last nights remains vivid whenever I am feeling the pain of their having to be finally PTS.

Linda

PS- I think another reason you post was misunderstood was the title as a funny story and being in General Info. IMHO you probably are already hurting about Rocky and the prospect of loosing him soon, and were really just trying to be humorous to deflect some of your difficult feelings. I'm sure that you will make Rocky's last days as good as they can be and make him feel very loved.

What a sweet and funny story. I'm glad that you are having special moments like this to remember later. Enjoy your time with Rocky.
