Registration

Hi,

This may be of some service to some of you. I found a registry called "The American Purebred Dog Registry". From the way I see they are not affiliated with AKC but, will register a purebred dog. Their guidlines are not as strict as AKC. For more info I've provied a web sitehttp://www.americanpurebred.com/Home.htm;)

Well, that should make the BYB's happy. A dog registry with less standards than the AKC

It's just another registry for the puppy mills to use to give their pups legit looking papers

Personally I'd like AKC to get more strict. As in all breeding dogs and all pups produced must be DNA'd; all breeding dogs must have at least minimal health clearances; any breeder producing more than X amount of litters a year gets a mandatory inspection etc...

BUT it will likely never happen in my lifetime

American Purebred Registry has been in the business of registering purebred, full-blooded dogs and cats since 1979. These animals through no fault of their own have lost their registration privileges. Some of the reasons this has happened are:

1.The owner bought a puppy, the seller had not registered the pups.

2.The owner lost contact with the seller before the papers were delivered.

3.Sellers dog was purebred, but papers were lost, even though the dog was bred to a registered dog, the pups could not be registered.

4.The owner sent the registration in too late and it was canceled.

5.Original papers were lost and the owner had no idea how to order a duplicate copy or the information to order it with.

There are many variations to the dog or cat owners story about why their pet does not have registration papers. Lost registrations could have been several generations back.

What a joke!!! It's nothing more than a registry for mutts and BYB's. Of course if they make a few bucks there's nothing wrong with that, is there? Absolutely disgusting. Full-blooded dogs and cats!!! I guess they don't register dogs and cats with half their blood.

The reason of registration is to certify parentage and genetic background (for good or bad) and almost all of the reasons listed would have "unknown" as to that, so what is the purpose? If it is just a certificate, anyone can make one up on their computer. AKC can and has issued papers where there was a contract specifying parents and numbers and the breeder messed up. To my knowlege registrations are not cancelled due to lateness, there is a late fee. Doesn't have the information to order papers with? Then doesn't have the information for parentage with an off brand registry either.

Should there be breeding where the parentage is in doubt? If not for breeding purposes, AKC will happily issue an ILP.

Exactly my thought! What's wrong with an ILP? They are for purebred dogs and you can then compete at any venue except conformation.

Digbee's (Cocker Spaniel rescue) is right in his personal photo album. He's very proud to have it!;)
