| Puppy biting :) Hello all...my finance' and myself are new owners of a 9 week old Rotti (Boots)..I have been reading the bulletins and gaining a better understanding of Boots' behavior, but I still have a few questions. We already own a 3 year old Yorkie (Taz) and Boots wants to play constantly with Taz, but Taz is growling and snipping at Boots..I don't know if I should step in or let the two dixover their on pecking order (will these two ever get along) Next question is I understand that Boots teeth are hurting and he needs to chew on various toys, bones, etc to relieve this, but what should I do when he is attacking my pants legs, and feet, and toes? I have been trying to correct him by saying now and tugging at his collar, even sprayed myself with the apple bitter stuff, but he still does it..and now when I correct him he is growling and trying to bite me. So what I have been doing in those instances is putting him inside his kennel. Am I going about this wrong? And lastly (hate to bombard with a million questions)..What should I be feeding him? We have been using the Eukanuba puppy large breed, and he is starting to do well on that, but we also bought some Royal Canin to try when he finishes the Eukanuba. Any help on these issues will be greatly appreciated... |

| This sounds like my story to a tee. I have a 9 week old Rottie and a 5 year old Cocker Spaniel. The Rottie is causing him much grief. She charges at him and just last night hopped on his back and nipped him. The Cocker turned the tables on her and knocked her to the ground and smothered her but not hurting her. The rottie ran off crying!! 20 minutes later back to pestering!! The Rottie even chews on the concrete when we go outside. What can I do to get these two to get along better and to stop some of the chewing. We bought a ton of chew toys but the concrete and the Cocker must look more exciting at this point!! The Cocker is trying to be patient and turn the other cheek when he is not sniffing her backside since th Cocker is a male and the Rottie a female. Hopefully over time this will settle. She will eventually outweigh the Cocker and this is when I do not want to have to worry about behavior!! |

| My rottie, now 10 months, would do the same thing as far as grabbing our pants. Any behaviour such as biting is not to be encouraged or ignored. I would simply tell him no very sharply and put him in his crate. Everytime he did it it was a time out without attention and he caught on very quickly. |

| If the puppy's play is getting too rough for your other dog to handle, step in. They do, however, need to establish a pecking order. Chances are, the older dog will be the alpha. My mom has a standard poodle, a greyhound, and a yorkshire terrier. The yorkshire terrier is, by far, the ruler of the house.

| PEukanuba is not a very good dog food at all. There are much better commercial brands of dog food out there or there is a raw or cooked food diet. Check out this site for some information on foods: http://home.attbi.com/~mstraus/index.html |

| Get your dog into training. I did puppy K and then basic obidence. Then we got bark busters (www.barkbusters.com). They come to your home and the training is geared towards your dog, not for 10 or 15 dogs like puppy K. My dog has been a joy ever since (not that she wasn't before, he he). They are a little $$$ but worth every single penny!!!!! They cured everything. |

| ummmmmm maybe this will help hi i had a rottie for 14 years he was a male and im looking for another one but in any event i would like to say one thing the food that your feed him now is not good for him at all because by the time the puppy actually reaches a dog he will have hips problems because of the fact that the eukanuba puts the weight on rapidly before the body can grows what i sugges that you use is the pedigree puppy food feed him in moderation make sure he gets alot of water and plently of excerise dont be to alarm about the bitting and the growling because of the fact that this is how rotties express themselves at times now if it becomes to aggressive then i sugges that you contact a person who specialize in tempermant with the little pup but i think that he just needs a big big bone to calm them teething spats just like our teeth they hurt when they come in or when new larger ones are coming in same for a pup so just bare with him just give him something to take his mind off the pain and you will be in great condition i hope that things work out for you and when time come for him to be a big man you will see the difference as puppies they are very playful very playful at some time in and some point you will have to allow them to interact with each other just dont leave them alone if you feel boots is going to hurt taz just watch and observe the more you put yourself with your dog the more you'll become to love him for his flaws that is what makes a puppy a puppy just like humans we have good times and bad times and so do puppies so you have to be patient with them and in return you couldnt ask for anything better :)
