delila, you would need to contact your city govt. to find out your local laws. Contact your City Hall. There they will explain to you (or tell you to come down to read them) their codes, I.E.; how many, insurance if needed and licenses. Good luck!

Excellent advice, because there is no state or federal legislation on how many dogs you can have. In rural areas, you can pretty much have as many as you want, but cities are different - they usually have specific ordinances restricting the number of dogs per household. You really do have to check out where you live, specifically.

NJ dog laws?

I was just wondering if there are any laws in NJ pretaining to dogs. In specific I was wondering how many dogs you are allowed to own.

I have checked with my local animal control and police - and they did not have an answer for me. I was hoping someone could shed some light here for me :)

Did you know that every 4.5 seconds a cat or dog in america is "put to sleep"?

Yes, check your local government codes and ordinances (health, nuisance, animals would get you started in the indices). But don't mention how many dogs you have! In some places you would qualify as a kennel.

I live in Atco, NJ and have 4 dogs. I have never heard of anything about a limit and everyone around here knows how many I have. My neighbor also has 3 and has heard nothing.

I live in Haddon Heights and when I licensed my dogs and the Town Hall I was told - in a nice way - the if I get any more I will have to have a kennel license. So reading between the lines - I am at my limit. My home owners doesn't care how many I have only the bite history.
