I switched to canidae but I he still tries to eat a ton...

He actually looks kind of scrawny from the front...

i don't know how big his mom was, but his dad was maybe 29 1/2" 147...

The breeder said he would be about 145...

but he looks sooo much bigger than my other one(different litter) who at 10 weeks, weighs about 19lbs., and is expected to be about the same size as his big brudder...

I realize that that is the standard, but many a rottweiler are out of standard if they are not show/breeders...as are most people's rotties on this website...just look at one of the countless "how big is your rottie" posts...That doesn't make it right, it just makes it realistic...

That aside I am not going to tell my puppy to stop growing just so that he can be within standard...

I want to estimate whether or not he will get much taller...

Billy Dee...don't get upset at what appears to be a slamming, sometimes the people on these forums forget that there are those of us who have pet Rotties who were bought as pet Rotties, who didn't mortgage a house to be able to afford a 'registered Rottie'. Our pet Rotties are neutered and not a threat to the show ring folks and to us they are evry bit as precious as any 'conforms to standard Rottie'. Maggie is not registered, is spayed, her mom weighs about 110 pounds and her dad weighs 135 pounds. Maggie is 11 months young and is 24 and 1/2 inches at the shoulder is weighs 93 pounds and she is not fat. She weighed 81 pounds at 8 months and stayed within a couple of pounds of that for about 2 months, then gained 3 pounds in two weeks at around 11 months. She has been getting the same amount of food each day since she was 6 months old. For people to say they are trying to slow genetic growth is ridiculous, unless you are a magician, genetic growth will appear whether you want to starve your puppy or feed enough to support the growth nature has intended through genetics. Supporting genetic growth is alot different than feeding fattening meals. Bone and muscle weigh heavy too.

Hey billy dee, sounds like you're going to have a Rotzilla for sure! One word of
caution...don't overfeed or exercise him strenuously. My last one that got to 80lbs at 6 months got panosteitis, probably because I was ignorant & fed him a bit too much at times & also took him on long walks & hikes when he was young.

Anyways, I think I read that they'll grow in height up to a year or so, then fill out slowly till about three. By the time they are about 6 months old (in my limited experience) they seem to be done with the drastic growth spurts & start to grow more slowly & steadily.

I'm not sure I would buy another pup from a breeder who intentionally breeds ouut of standard dogs, though. There are "pet" puppies in even the best thought out litters. With all the unwanted Rottweilers out there, I personally think breeding any dog without lots of care & forethought is just wrong. I don't mean that as a dig at you though, billy dee, just a general comment (since it was brought up already) on the topic...

Have you posted pictures yet? :)

Jory, it has nothing to do with "Pet vs. Show." It doesn't matter whether you have a show quality Rottweiler or a Pet quality Rottweiler, there ARE still standards that **should** be followed. Sadly, there are countless "breeders" out there whom are destroying our beloved breed. Why? Because they don't care about the breed standard. They don't care about the health issues that runs rapid in our beloved breed. And believe it or not, there are PLENTY of responsible ethicial breeders who do breed for the betterment of the breed. Who doesn't require you to put a second mortgage on your house. All it takes is a little dedication and investigation to find one. And if you can't afford their prices for a quality pet Rottie, then God know's, there are PLENTY in rescue all around the country in needing of quality loving homes. There is NO reason to buy from an irresponsible breeder in this day and age. All that does is hurt our breed and increase the BYB's supply and demand.

You call it "Pet vs. Show," I call it passion, love, and dedication in the preservation of the noble Rottweiler.

Jory:

No one is being "slammed" in this thread.

rottweiler.net's Mission Statement has several elements; two of which are to

"To be the most informative Rottweiler information site on the internet" and

"To help protect and maintain the integrity of this fine breed we call the Rottweiler."

To point out the breed standard is not slamming. Perhaps you're too new a member to know how few people know what the standard is. The more people who know the standard and what constitutes a Rottweiler, the better off all who admire the breed will be. And, surely the breed surely will benefit.

You all are right...

But, just like a father wants to guess how tall his kids will be...I was curious...

Needless to say...Standards do need to be maintained for the preservation of the breed...But I will say that some of the most beautiful dogs that I have ever seen were not "show" material and some of the best champions left alot to be desired in my eyes...
