Cody was attacked by a Miniature Schnauzer!

We were ending our walk around a local lake park. I heard barking and growling and a man's voice and a female voice. It was over to our right, where there are houses. I didn't see anything. We were just walking along, minding our own business. Cody didn't even notice the sounds, I believe. Too many good smells.

All of a sudden this blur of gray charges from across the road and bites Cody's front leg, lets go and bites his other front leg. Little darting bites like a pirrhana. Then tries to go under him toward his Private Parts!!!! Cody's mouth is open and he's growling but his hackles aren't up. He's using his head to butt the little rat away and keep him from going underneath. The stupid dog isn't even looking at Cody's face, he's intent on the PP!

I hear the voices, one angry. I figure one of them will be there in a flash, but no, the idiots are just arguing. I don't want to take my eyes from the dogs, and I had hoped to not aggravate the situation by yelling, but I had to yell more than twice to "GET YOUR DOG AWAY FROM HERE!!!" I was afraid Cody was going to lose his patience, or the little dog would get in one too many nips.

FINALLY a young college age woman runs over and picks up the little beastie who is still snapping and growling and trying to twist out of her arms to continue at Cody. She curtly says, "sorry about that" and marches back to the house.

Geez. No skin broken on Cody, but I could see those little teeth in the snarling mouth, and they did make contact on the first few nips. Cody could have easily taken most of that dog in his jaws and chomped him in half. I'm proud he didn't over-react. I was getting very concerned, though, how long Cody could successfully continue to butt him away from between his front legs.

Good boy, Cody!!!
We once had a Rott that was NOT a good boy. We were at the beach one day, very deserted area, and this little dog comes running toward us barking and growling, intent on attacking our dog. (He must have had a death wish)My son, (quick thinker) reached down and scooped the little dog up into his arms. Fortunately the little dog did not seem to be people aggressive. Had he reached our dog he would have been dead as ours was not friendly toward other dogs or patient with dogs running up to him barking and growling.

The little dog's owners finally came ambling down the beach, not a care in the world. Little did they know their dog was almost a Rottweiler meal.

Oh, that is the way they say "hello"......... at least that is what my dogs believe about the min Schn. We had one in agility that used to break across the field every time we arrived. She would fling herself on my dog, trying to reach his whithers, growling and barking. He would simply grin and say "she really likes me, she always says hello when I arrive"..........

Oh. Well. I guess we need all kinds of friends for balance. That must be why Cody is very interested in returning to the Min. Schn.'s house. A friend! He LIKES me! :) :)

We took Cooper to see some friends with a rabbit farm a few weeks ago...one of their dogs was a little bitty male terrier mix who launched a full-out hissy fit attack on Cooper.

I was fully prepared for Cooper to eat Rascal in one bite, but he just stood there while this little dog at one point was literally hanging off his neck! Must have been a friendly overture that us bipeds just don't understand, because the dogs spent the next several hours playing nicely.

Must be a small dog thing - do you think Cody would have been so patient with a dog closer to his size? I'm pretty sure Cooper would have retaliated full force if a big dog had done that to him. Maybe the small size confuses them & they think it's actually a puppy or something.

I find that my bitches have a limit to how much of this they find amusing, however all of my males just seem to think they are somewhat crazed and perhaps puppies. Yes, the size makes a difference. I also cared for my sister's min Schn for TWO months and he was like that as well. My boys just kept walking while he tried to hand off their whithers. Finally my old girl put her paw on him, smushed him to the ground and gave him a good gerrrr. He settled a bit after that.

Little Bear (who of course was quite large) always liked the small dogs the best. Only one got a bite in, and it bounced back with a look of amazement, like it coudn't believe it really did it. Bear kept his nub going and put his head down for more sniffs of the dog. He was especially good with the small dogs. If they were unsure, he would have his head down sniffing like mad but would wait for them to come to him. They almost always did, and it just made his day!

I looove the min. schnauzers but yes they tend to have a heart the size of a lion but a brain the size of a pea in some instances. A friend of mine with Bouvs has them and recently he got a new male Bouv 2.5 years and although his other males were used to having Mr. Schnauzer hanging from there various parts, this guy was not so impressed and put the little guy in the hospital. The schnauzer has a feww teeth missing to from all his endevours. ;)
