| Extremely friendly to stranger Not sure where this should go but here goes; As I was leaving to go to work today, I saw 2 rotties roaming the streets. I stopped my car and rolled my window down and told them to go home! They walked over to my car wagging tails and i was able to pet both of them, so then i go out and they were loving all over me. I turned to scan the street and see where they may belong and THEY JUMPED IN MY CAR! Muddy at that too! Well, I got in and started thinking about where I had seen rotties on my walks and proceded to drive to a house where I thought they may live. When I got there, I noticed the gate unlatched and went to the door and knocked, no answer. Neighbor came out and I asked if 2 rotties lived there and indeed they did. So i ordered them out of my car and they docilely walked to their yard, I filled the water dish up and latched the gate. Now, I realize that this is an EXCELLENT outcome considering what could of happened. But it made me think, those dogs were so friendy that anyone could of taken them and done anything to them. As friendly as Chivas and Roxie were, i know for a fact they would of NEVER gone with a stranger. Roxie would of just laid down and refused to budge and Chivas would of backed off. Now I know everyone is gonna jump on the "NEVER LEAVE UR DOGS UNATTENDED IN THE YARD" bandwagon, but i was really more concerned with the TOTAL trust. I would think rotties would be more aloof, at least mine and the 4 others i personally know are. Any comments? Kim

| Their friendliness probably saved their lives. You were able to return them so they did not get made into road pizza. Had they not been friendly, and threatened anyone who was trying to help them, or simply appeared dangerous, they could easily have been shot and killed. |

| I have met just a few in their own yards and with their own families. I can't give an opinion on them. They were nice to me around their own families but I don't know if they would have been so outgoing without their family around and being nice to me. Let's say in the type of situation you described: Of mine, Mr. Bear would have approached no one though he would have known their exact locations at all times. He might have looked if they put on a friendly voice, but he would not have gone to them. If someone were trying to catch him, he would not be lured and he would have kept out of reach. He would have been killed on a trafficy road. Cars and trucks meant nothing to him other than some noise in his environment. Little Bear might have been duped into catching range by a nice woman's voice to investigate and he might have had trouble evading capture because of his hips (wouldn't have been able to turn quickly enough, though his 30 foot dsah was pretty impressive) . But he would have tried to bite a man, and perhaps a woman, if caught. He would have been sorely tempted to hop into a small truck or SUV. (I think his first owner must have had one. He looked hopefully at or into any we saw.) Pandora would have stayed out of catching range but would have looked with interest at a nice voice. A food lure might have tempted her, but she was pretty wiley. Especially if on her own agenda, if she'd managed a jailbreak. Cody, I'm afraid, would have been like the two you described. Fine, if the stranger's intent is good. Awful if it's a bad person. I don't know whether this will change with age. He's 1+ now and shows no territoriality over his own yard. He's always been with me or a close family member, and we've never met anyone that we haven't spoken nicely to. "Aloof" right now is not in his vocabulary. I'm sure glad it was you who found these two. I'm sure you'll be letting their owner now of their jailbreak, and the danger of dog nappers (as well as raod traffic). | The biggest reason why I never leave Sparkle unattended anywhere is because I know she's a spud and would jump happily into anyone's car. And I hate to think of what would happen after that. I think it all depends on the dog's personality, just like people. |

| Both Akasha and Keil would go right up to anyone and would gladly go home with them. Granted they are still puppies and this may change as they get older but to be honest I love how friendly they are right now. Those dogs are very lucky that you are the one who found them. Alot of people won't go near a rottie when it's loose no matter how friendly it looks:( Years ago my female Delilah and our male Zues got loose and the neighbors immediately called animal control saying that they were running after people. Animal control contacted us and the woman I spoke to said that they were not agressive at all when she picked them up she just thinks they were running up to people wanting to play and visit and of course people were scared to death because they were rotties. That is one reason our puppies are never left outside unattended, that way they can't get loose;)

| There are a few things to take into account: 1) These dogs were obviously very well socialized. 2) They've been taught that cars are good things! 3) You, being a rottie owner, would have carried yourself with caring strength - giving less of a reason to be fearful. 4) You called them over with authority
