dog to human illness??

Okay, I've mentioned how Greta and Audrey have kennel cough...

For some reason they were prescribed different pills, and Greta seems to be getting better but Audrey's nose is so plugged up that when she sleeps, snotty drainage blocks up her nasal passages and she wakes up frequently because of it... And when she wakes up, there's always a little puddle of drainage on the floor... Its just irritating about the two different pills, and we're going to talk to the HS about it since they've got to treat it for free anyways since thats where they got it... But I'm just venting...

Anyways... uhm, ... Oh yeah. Today I have just been feeling in the dumps with a sore throat and ear ache and sneezing... Granted I could just be getting a cold, but I was thinking... Is it possible for a dog to give a "cold" to a human???

Greta and Audrey? Thought they were Ruth and Naomi.

Well, anyway. Yes, actually there are some illnesses that can be transferred from animal to human. I don't know about KC which in any case isn't usually that serious, but I have heard that humans can contract Parvo virus, for example.

Try this one over on Vet Corner where people more likely to be in on medical side will read it, perhaps.

You can also do a search yourself on Medline's public access pages, putting in terms like Kennel Cough, canine to human transfer, etc.

While it is important to learn to use proper hygeine when dealing with animals, particularly ones with recent rescue backgrounds and who are ill--and possible to contract an illness from an animal vector. My guess would be that you most likely are just getting a cold.

thanks!

*achoo*

Yeah, probably just a cold...

And I wrote another post about the names, ... but a mod merged them together, so people who read the first one didn't know to check it again... :-/

Oh well...

My 2 rotties (both of them gone now, rest their souls) had Kennel Cough and I got a cold that was a pretty different cold. It had more respiratory symptoms and lingered longer than a "cold". I really believe I had the kennel cough! People found it amusing when I told them what I had... I felt like crap though!
