How much do you spend on food a week?

For your beloved dog that is....

I spend approximately $7-10 Aussie per week on food for a 11 month female.
That includes everything - BARF, veggies, mince, biscuits, rice, oil, etc..

My guys go through a 40lb bag of canidae every 2 weeks...so I guess I spent $17 US dollars per week to feed a 16 month old male and a 8 month old female :P

Goniella,

Is that all you feed them? I meant the total cost, ie dry food, wet food, barf, veggies, treats, etc..

Wow! A lot more then I would like to know about. Most of what I feed comes out of our regular grocery bill. Eggs, cottage cheese, yogart, safflower oil, hamburger, chicken, organ meat, ox tails, soup bones, and then there's the fresh veggies. Add to that the supplements and the cheapest part is about $4 US per week for a bag of Steve's Real Food. I have to say this much, a bag of kibble sure would be a lot cheaper.

I think we're averaging a bag every 2-3 weeks...I don't really keep track of it.

I feed raw...I've figured it can be as low as $10.00/week for all four dogs, or 2-3 times that, depending what I'm feeding. I buy in bulk mostly, that keeps costs down.

Inexpensive (or free) things are chicken parts & beef heart.
Rabbit, tripe, and beef ribs push the cost up.

I feed Royal Canin and that is $99.50 for a 15kg bag that lasts a month. I also feed chicken frames, tuna, sardines, lamb necks and yoghurt which would amount to $15 a week. It works out to about $40 a week for both dogs here.

Good question

Let's see. I buy 40# chicken necks and 40# chicken wings for $40.00. They last about 2 months. I also buy 10# bags of chicken leg quarters at between .29 & .39 a pound, probably eats one bag a month. Then there is the ground pork, beef and chicken liver, eggs amd misc.

So, that adds up to $20 + $3.90 + $10.00 = $33.90 per month = $8.50 per week. WOW, I thought it would be more. The kibble I was feeding cost more than that:D The money is in the supplements, especially with his unexplained shoulder problem. I don't think I want to add that one up.

for my boy

40 pound bag of Healthwise ($28) lasts about 5 weeks. Ester-c probably costs a couple bucks a week. I also give him Canine Liquid health which probably averages to about 25 bucks a month. He also gets Wellness chicken (canned..and just a couple spoonfuls each day), which adds another couple bucks a week. Total looks like about 63 bucks a month...not including any training treats.

ouch! i totaled up the cost of beef, chicken, vegetables, cottage cheese, eggs, oil, vitamins and cheese since i'm cooking for anni, and it looks like i spend easily $30 a week.

that's probably another good reason that i remain a SINGLE rottweiler owner! i still have yet to meet a man who can comprehend why i'm willing to do this.

oops -- i forgot the rice and potatoes! actually, anni eats the same foods i do. it may sound crazy our fanatic to some. but in my own defense, since i work a full time job and do a successful freelance business in addition, time really is money. and thus far, the extra expenditure is worth the savings in my time since it keeps anni, healthy, shining, and happy.

anni's.mom, I'm glad I'm not the only one that spends that kind of money per week on feeding my dog. I only feed raw but that does not affect the price at all. Fortunately my wife has a lot of kitty mouths to feed so there is no problem on how much I spend on the dog.
