I'm not in Minnesota but I have Met Life and I don't think they care and they are nationwide.

insurance I was inquiring about being a foster or rescue owner and the rescue people checked with my agent (independent) and he told them that none of the companies he sells covers Rotties. I had the insurance policy before I got the dog and have followed the don't ask don't tell theory. Now I am worried that if something weere to happen could they decline to pay the claim? I am feeling that maybe it would be better to be safe than sorry. My girl does not have a bite history. She is 18 months now and becoming protective of her home. What to do? Frenchman

Ok, now you're getting into a "grey" area here. Sinse your girl is a rescue, I'm going to assume she doesn't have papers? No papers mean you can't prove she is a pure bred rottie so technically what you have is a generic dog? Right?

My girl is a pure Rottie with papers but I was looking at the rescue/adoption end and they won't allow a dog to be placed if your insurance doesn't cover rotts. So when they told me they asked my agent, I provided them with his name and number, and none of his companies will cover a rottie I started to wonder and worry. Frenchman

Hi Frenchman, State Farm doesn't have breed restrictions. We've checked with three different Allstate agents here and were told that they do NOT have breed restrictions and offered to put it in writing. I know that in some states they do have the restrictions, but they told us that in Minnesota they don't. There was a partial list on the AKC website that also said that Farmers does not have restrictions, nor does Murcury Casualty company, or Prudential (though it does say Prudential may vary from state to state).

Hi Frenchman, I had the same trouble a couple of months ago. I was buying a house and wanted to make sure I had Rottie friendly insurance. The only two companies I found in my area were State Farm and Farmer's. I ended up going through Farmer's because it was cheaper. Amber

| I had State Farm on my house in Denver; most other insurance companies would not cover me. Why don't you just ask the folks with the rescue you're working with? Surely they must know which companies write policies for Rottweiler owners in Minnesota!
