MY ROTT

Our male Zeke is 11 months, and weights 96 pounds. Although, since he is so muscular, he does appear to weigh more than that. He has made such a positive impact on our lives and is such a loyal friend. I was strictly a cat person until we got him, but I am now also a rottie lover. I want to get a female some day, but we are enjoying him right now.
He also had his first "test" as the neighbors next door had a prowler/stalker outside their window, which happened to be right next door to our fence. Needless to say I think that guy will think twice about getting that close again. If not, well that's his choice to be a tossed salad! LOL
:)

Hi Omar,

Rottweilers usually mature physically around 2 yrs of age and mentally around 3 yrs. According to the standard for the breed, males should be between 24-27 inches in height and between 95-110 pounds maximum weight. Females are usually a couple hairs smaller in each department.

Sounds like your boy is at a good place for now...he does have more growing to do. Try real hard not to let him get any heavier than 110 pounds...115 max. It will be much easier on his hips as he ages. Good luck with your boy! :)

Hi omar! I would add that being over
110 is not out of standard, necessarily. Am I correct, there is a height standard, but the weight is de facto only - a 27" male weighing 160lbs is obviously too fat.

However, my pup's sire (Am/Can CH Evrmor's U R The One CD) was showing at 130lbs. Absolutely beautiful, muscular dog, and he moves like a cat. (If I am wrong about the weight standard thing, I'd appreciate being corrected.) ;)

So perhaps Argus44 advice should be amended to: Don't let him get FAT! That is very important. Not only does a fat rottie just look sort of bad, but it's hard on his joints, & he can't be as active & healthy. So...don't let him get fat! Whatever healthy size he's genetically programmed to be is the right weight for him.

He sounds like a good size, & will keep filling out until he's 2-3 years old.

More important than his size, though..is he a Good Dog? :) :)

Carina-

The breed standard for males is to be between 90 and 130 lbs.

A dog over 110 lbs and below 130 lbs falls within the standard as it was written.

Weight is not mentioned for a good reason and we do not have a DQ for height although variation outside the recommended height will be penalized. Proportion and correctness are primary. Weight is going to vary among fit dogs even among equal heigth due to substance of bone which is what carries the muscle. Look for a correct dog with proper proportions. Weight should be such that the dog is fit. Rottweilers are not judged by the pound. There is much to consider. Fronts (elbows, shoulder layback and layon, pasturnes), rears, toplines, correct croup, movement (strong and good movement please), dentition, headpiece.......

Check the FCI Standard in the ADRK webpage at http://www.adrk.de (there is an english version of the standard).
This is what it says about Size and weight:

Heigtht at withers:
For males is 61 - 68 cm.
61 - 62 cm is small
63 - 64 cm is medium height
65 - 66 cm is large - correct height
67 - 68 cm is very large
Weight:
approximately 50 kg

Heigtht at withers:
For bitches is 56 - 63 cm.
56 - 57 cm is small
58 - 59 cm is medium height
60 - 61 cm is large - correct height
62 - 63 cm is very large

Weight:
approximately 42 kg

You should notice that the weight is mentioned as approximatlely. This means that the important thing is a GOOD BODY PROPORTION and, of couse, a smaller dog should not weight the same as a Big one. You can have a Male Rottweiler with less than 50Kg and a another one with more and still both of them be ON STANDARD.

Bye
Paulo

P.S. - Furst is 3 years old . He is around 27 inches and he weights around 128 pounds. I don't know Mara's size , but she weights around 95 pounds.

Thanks for the clarification.

I guess, because I don't show, I never looked that closely . . . I kinda just saw 24"-27" and 90-130 lbs. and thought that was it.

I bow to the knowledge . . . ;)

Hi Goose,
This is the FCI and ADRK standard. The AKC standard doesn't seem to say nothing about this measurements. Check it out at: http://www.amrottclub.org/judge.html#stnd

Bye

Thanks, you guys!

Cooper is 19 weeks old, and today weighed in at 52.3lbs. I could care less how big he gets, I just want him to be happy and healthy. He is "shaggy"...his coat is too long, but otherwise beautiful. (We call him the Rocky Mountain Fleece Edition Rottweiler.) :D
