| Really worried now There is a post in behavior about if potatoes are poisonous to dogs. Someone posted a link of things that are poisonus to dogs. One of the items on there is isopropanal, which is one of the ingredients in Bitter Apple. Is Bitter Apple safe for dogs then or what? (the bitter apple that I have is call Grannick's Bitter Apple- water, Isopropanol 20%, bitter principles and extractives) |

| ? Since it is supposed to be sprayed on things, I don't think any pup will be drinking large amounts of it....I've used it for years with no problem.... Usually there is a particular dosage which is poisonous.

| Isopropanol is alcohol. It's used as the "propellant" in Bitter Apple. The idea of bitter apple is that it's to deter biting/eating, and won't be ingested in large amounts. I'm sure if you fed the entire bottle to the dog, you'd see deleterious effects. Used as recommended, it should not be a problem.

| ...ABOUT THE POTATOES? It's not the actual potato, but the EYE or ROOT that grows out of the eye. There are a few other things but I no longer have the site at my fingertips. ONIONS are toxic, obviously more so to a smaller dog...mine (the Rottie) ate a thin slice once with the first and only time she ever snuck anything from my counter. I thought I'd killed her! Called the vet and they said simply watch her with her weight and size she's probably be alright. She was. CHOCOLATE but more prevalently the kind used for baking. VARIOUS SEEDS, like grapes, apples, and tomatoes, are reportedly toxic as well. I spoke with my vet and he said that while they were toxic, it would take a substantial quantity. (so don't worry if your pet snags an apple in the back yard and the seeds that are swallowed without damage to the casing...come out the same way) Anyone remember some more?

| Every female dog I've ever owned (all large breed) has been a tomato thief. Admittedly they've not consumed huge quantities in a short period of time, but I've never observed any ill effects as a result of eating them. I have noticed tomato residue in the stool. The males do not seem interested. |
