Seven Week old. NOW what ? Hello everyone. I just joined this site. I now am the proud owner of my first Rott. Female. Been reading on the site, and I am concerned because my pup is only seven weeks old. Is there anything special I should be doing because she is so young? We have no access to other dogs. Please Help. Thanks, kingd.

Hi and welcome to the site. Congrats on your new rottie girl. She should have been with here littermates for another week, in some states it isn't legal to sell a pup until they are 8 weeks old. Guess that point is mute now. Next thing is to read all you can here and you should consider taking her to a vet to get her checked out. Is she up to date on her shots? Best of luck with her.

| This topic (acceptable puppy age) has been rolling around for the better part of two weeks and has been addressed more than adequately. King, there is absolutely *nothing* wrong with getting a puppy at 7 weeks. Again, all Code Of Ethics (COE) clubs feel this is fine and since these clubs are made up of some of the most well respected/ethical breeders who have designed, adopted and subscribe to a code to protect the interest of the Rottweiler in this country, it isn't likely they'd incorporate a rule that would harm the puppy. So, you should be looking in to crate training with your new girl, Puppy K classes down the road, motivational training you can do with her at this stage, proper nutrition, and current thinking on over inoculating dogs just for starters. This site contains oodles and oodles of archives that are invaluable. You will notice the search button on the top right-hand side of your screen. If you have any trouble, or questions - please ask. You'll find folks to be quite helpful.

Well, I'd hope you've been reading some before you brought the little critter home, but try to get the book "How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With"

Congratulations on your new baby girl. Don't worry about getting her at 7 weeks, I'm getting a new pup at seven weeks myself in the near future! To answer your question about what to do now, there is a ton of good information on this board. Use caution, however, as some opinions vary tremendously between those who post. Use your better judgement and do that which you think is right for your new addition. Starting crate training is great for one of the first things to teach her. Remember, she's LEARNING all the time, even though you aren't deliberately TRAINING all the time. So make the most of opportunities like feeding, going out doors, meeting company and new people, etc. Congrats again - and happy reading! Jayne May
