| If you have a growing puppy, you should get one of the large wire mesh crates with a divider. That way, you can move the divider out as your dog grows. You don't really NEED anything else, but you can put blankets and toys in the crate. |

| Buy a decent crate. Not the cheapest one. You won't be happy. I bought a couple big, cheap wire crates that are the folding type. I have to wire the corners together with twist ties because they keep coming un-done. Yes, I got what I paid for and I know better for next time..... |

| I personally have a midwest brand crate. I feel like it is very sturdy. I spent the extra $$$ to get the one that easily folded. I wanted that so I could travel with my dog. (Actually, I didn't think I needed "all that"; I was prepared to settle for taking the crate apart each time and save on my pocket book. However, the folding part is REALLY nice and I have never regretted getting such a nice crate!) I can't remember now what size I got. But I do remember it was one size bigger than I expected I would need. (I was lucky though-- adopting an adult all I had to do was set one up in the store, walk her in and and check the fit. No guess work there. :) ) -chloe |

| Not that I have anything to gain here but someone recently sent me a link to some good prices on folding crates. I'll pass it on here: http://www.jbpet.com/ezine/030416/JB030416.htm I keep an orthopedic bed on the bottom of my dogs crate. I have 2 so if she gets one wet or dirty the other can go in. You may also want to get a bucket for water. I say bucket cause the handle can be attached to the wire to prevent spilling. |

| Plastic crates for puppies under 12 months and wire crates for older dogs Rationale- one of my puppy homes and one of our rescue puppy homes had pups get a foreleg jammed in the wires and damaged the growth plate in their foreleg. 1 Required surgery to repair additionally puppy accidents are contained in a plastic crate and spread out all ver our rug in a wire crate in the crate are safe chew toys like Nylabones and chew toys that are not for out of the crate like real beef bones

| I got a really decent price on folding crates right at the local Agway. They come in a variety of sizes. I actually "borrowed" my own Cocker Spaniel's crate when she was a pup, until she graduated into her own. You also try wwwpetedge.com/jump.jsp?itemID=1259&item1 or www.drsfostersmith.com/product/sub.cfm?site One last suggestion is attend a dog show. Many times you can find some nice crates there.

| What about Noztonoz crates? Go to www.ryanspet.com . These are soft, collapsable and are very light and portable.

| I just got an order form for a new, airline-approved line of plastic crates that fold flat when not in use. Supposedly very sturdy. The company sponsors an SAR dog that flies everywhere in one. Could be the end of crates as livingroom furniture. |
