Rottie Play Style

But recently she met another very sweet rott girl (1yr.) and they have started to play. It is amazing how differently two rotts play! Mad always just blasted her weight around while the lab jumped alot, spun and rolled. Playing with the new rott friend, I see she plays the SAME WAY. There is alot of herding each other, and powerful looking crashes, kind of a black and tan sumo wrestling.

Brought home a foster rott boy this weekend who turns out to be 6 ( not 8 like the shelter thought! ) and they also play the SAME WAY! I don't know if it's any better, but is funny to watch. Also, get out of the way, unlike alot of other dogs, they don't go around you while playing...they just go through you!

Parker too, tends to play differently than other dogs. Lots of body checks and lots of pawing. Which does not go over well with small dogs / their owners. However, he does lay down for little Lucy, the 8 month old Mini Schnauzer in our obedience class so she can play with him. :)

One play date in particular was last week. Parkers best buddy is my best friend's Irish Setter. Sully is 5 - 6 months older than Parker, so he's always been bigger. Well, last week, Parker hit 90 lbs and they're even.... So Sully had taken a long run, right at Parker, which in the past, has always sent him flying. This time, Parker stepped into his path and dropped his weight. Sully bounced off of Parker like he was a ball off a wall! ;) :D

My little boy is growing up!

I've noticed the difference also. Mojave and Kaiya play like they're going to kill each other (but they're not) with SOOOO MUCH play-growling, pawing, jumping up on each other, pushing each other around, and chomping on each other's back legs.

When Kaiya plays with our Belgian boy, Diablo, she tries all those moves, but he just runs in circles really fast, hops over her, rolls over and kicks her up and off of him. All while she's clamped to his back trying to eat the back of his neck ;)

When Diablo and Sasha (our other Belgian) play together, it's more like they're dancing. They sprint after each other, do a lot of air-biting while they "tip toe" around each other and never really actually TOUCH each other. :)

It's always interesting to me to watch dogs playing together. :D

Our neighbors poke their heads up over the fence to see our dogs acting as though they are "killing" one another while playing.:) They play so rough it is crazy sometimes.

My 9 month old boy and 14 month old girl play so rough. They biting and pushing each other. Boy gets too excited and starts growling, his hair will go up and it really looks like fighting. There were a few scratches but I never saw any blood or injury. Our neigbor brought his golden retriever coulple times and I think she won't bring him anymore because he was pinned down several times, never bitten. I wounder, do you stop them if they play too rough? My girl is much lasier than boy, he just has so much energy and sometimes she tries to hide from him. Or she will come to me like she is asking to save her. Would you stop other dog to bother her or let them decide it themselves?

Akasha and Keil sound like they are killing each other when they are playing! They are so physical but they never actually bite each other. Akasha is extremely vocal and when they are playing she is usually the one the is doing most of the growling and barking. It really does sound like they are seriously trying to kill each other but they aren't.
They have never tried to play with any other puppies like this. At the end of Keil's puppy class every week all the puppies are let loose to play. Akasha gets to play with them also even though she is in the super puppy class and those puppies don't get to play together, but since we are there waiting for Keil and my daughter and Akasha is the same age she is allowed to play with everyone else. I have never heard them growl or bark at any of the other puppies there. Tonight while they were playing Akasha and Keil were getting verbal with each other but when there was another puppy involved with them they were silent.
It is so entertaining to see how all the different puppies react to each other. Akasha wants everyone to chase her. She had all the puppies in the class chasing her tonight and she was doing pretty good at not letting them catch her
At our puppy class they told us that it is not good to let them get vocal with each other because it can lead to more serious fights. If a puppy at class started getting vocal then they were reprimanded and put back on leash for a while. There were several puppies that had a problem with this but thank goodness it wasn't either of mine lol. They were wonderful with the other puppies and I am going to try to keep them socialized with other dogs so hopefully they will continue to *play well with others* :)

My Rotties play with each other in the same fashion, some chasing and running, but mostly tug of war, lots of ferocious play growling and biting, body slamming and wrestling.

Cooper has a couple of dog buddies, and he plays very differently with each. Dana is a 135lb Great Dane, and she is shy and sweet, so he's deferential and flirty to her and lets her set the tone of how they play. Once she gets going though, she plays like a Rottie, play growling and wrestling. The two get covered in slime and drool. :p

His other friend in a little brown mutt named Daisy, she is really bitch-y and very fast. They play tug of war, but she ALWAYS wins - mostly she runs in huge circles around, over and under Cooper. He tries his best to keep up, but doesn't have a chance! They get worn out quickly and lie down together for frequent rests, it's very cute.

Dutch and Daphne don't Play Well With Others, although Dutch recently met a rottweiler.net girl dog and after initially being a domineering snot, played very nicely with her! I was so pleased. :)

Well, this isn't EXACTLY the same, but it's FUNNY!!!!!

Ian LOVES TO CHEW!!! If it's within his reach, IT'S DESTROYED!!!!

Anyway, yesterday when I was letting the dogs out for their last potty break of the night, Sophie decided to be a jackass!! Instead of going outside she GAZELLED into the living room and ONTO my daughter! I have a 12" lead that I use when we are doing our heeling training and it has a fursaver connected to it! I put that around Sophie's neck and gave her a good pop and told her OUTSIDE (btw, she KNOWS the routine!) well, she ran outside SO quickly that the fursaver and lead were STILL AROUND HER NECK!!!

Now here comes the funny part......IAN sees that thing dangling from Sophie's neck and his EYES LIGHT UP!!! he GRABS it to chew it up into little pieces and ends up TUGGING Sophie around the yard for 20 minutes!!!! It was the FUNNIEST THING!! Sophie didn't know WHAT THE HECK was going on, her ears were all the way back and she just had this LOOK on her face!!!! I wish I had had a disk for my camera, I would LOVED to have shared that picture!!!

My sister's lab is Odin's play buddy, and she gets worn out FAST when they play. Odin goes to town on that poor girl; she likes it for about 10 minutes, is all fired up and ready to go, then tries to hide under a table

Odin's favorite move when she's all worn out is to take her back leg in his mouth and try to pull her out from under the table.

He also seems MUCH smarter and more cunning when it comes to play than she does. He got hold of the tab on her collar one day and figured out he could pull her around that way, now he does it all the time, just to annoy her, I think. And she NEVER talks back to him no matter how much he harrasses her.
