Why He is losing apetite when one "bitch" is on heat?

Hi RottLovers,

I am just really curious and/or somewhat worried (Do I have to?). My Boy is always (as in always) losing his apetite when any one of the "bitch" is on heat? Is this related? Is this really the source (of not eating)? What kind of behavior is this? How to stop this?

Thanks in advance.

My male always refuses to eat when my female goes in to her heat cycle. In addition he sits next to her kennel and whimpers and paws to try and get inside. He also goes on double alert guarding the house even more strenously. This happens every single time and when she is finished he goes back to his regular routine. Of course I only have one female old enough to have a heat cycle so it's only once every 6 months or so, so I don't worry.

Sounds like your boy wants to boink worse than eat!! My boy was terrible this last heat of Pooh's. We had to actually take him off premise to a park - let him chill for a few minutes, then feed him there. I was a little worried about him not eating for more than a couple of days - didn't want him to drop any weight. Maybe if you try this, it will work. Good luck.

My guy also goes off his feed when there is a bitch in heat. I happen to feed raw and he will eat his morning meal of raw chicken backs, but forget the night meal, no interest at all.
