You can get a good idea if you look at his sire, dam, grandsire and granddam.

Yes, you should be able to find jackets in your dog's size. Usually, they give a general list of what breeds will fit into what sizes. It may be necessary to move onto the larger breed sizes. It can be disappointing to see the amount of apparel offered for small breeds compared to what's offered for our larger breeds. What kind of jacket are you looking for?

Also, just a note out of concern for your boy orthodedically speaking. Your vet should have a chart (or you might find one on the web) which shows you how to assess your dog's weight. It will show pictures and give information. Since dogs are built differently - some may be longer, some may be petite, some may be built more ruggedly - as long as he falls into the normal looking category, that's what's important to his health and well being. Pounds don't always tell the story.

There is a boutique pet store that sells all kinds of clothing for dogs. There's a picture of an English Mastiff wearing a jacket. :)

DoggGuy asked two questions here.

when can i get a pretty good idea of his where he will top out.
do they make jackets rottie sized?
The 16 replies I edited or deleted concerned many other topics, but only ONE member answered the questions asked.

I highly suggest reading the following link. It is very clear, concise, and easy to understand.

these are all things that i know.

i have felt his side and i can feel most of his ribs if his fur wasnt so thick i could proboably tell a little easier to be honest, but i can fell them.

i am aware he will be out of the standard and that isnt really what i am concerned with nor is it something i am proud of, im not boasting of my dogs size in any way.

truthfully his size worries me, i think of all those way too huge dogs that die way too soon and are problematic and limping for what life they do have and it scares the hell out of me. I do what i can to slow down his growth. he is on a strict diet and we walk daily to keep him as lean as i can, he just gains weight.

but my question about the jacket is because he spends a fair amount of time inside and when it rains out his thick fur takes FOREVER to dry out, and if i could get him a raincoat of some kind it would help when we go for quick walk to go potty.

thanx for the input
this is good stuff keep it coming

Ok then.

I attempted to answer part of the question by asking:

DoggGuy, unless your dog has a very wide bone structure he sounds overweight. If you run your fingers over his ribs can you kind of feel each individual rib?

Now if the answer is ‘ no, I can’t feel a single rib’, then the dog is over weight at this stage of his development, however, he might top out at a weight within, or almost within standards (depending on how overweight he is, if he is at all) when he’s fully matured and his weight is adjusted to within its optimum range. (I thought the dogs weight and age were mentioned here before all of the editing was done and he was 11 months old and somewhere around 125 pounds. Am I right?)

If the answer is ‘yes, I can feel every single rib’ then dog will be substantially oversized according to breed standards.

Why does this have to be so hard? :(

I hope this helped, DoggGuy :)

Try looking at the Trainer's Choice website along with doing a search on sporting dog sites. Of course, there's Valley Vet, Omaha Vaccine, JB Wholesale and plenty of others. I just know that they have far more things like that for smaller breeds than they do for our large ones.

Even if you can't find a jacket, get a couple of those synthetic chamois cloths. They suck the water out of a coat in a remarkable manner.
