Growing up we had a med. poodle, Sissy and an Irish Setter, Pasha that we NOT afraid of any loud noise. Pasha would try to grab the bottle rockets out of the bottle before they took off! She was such a great dog! And neither Madchen nor Babe are afriad!! They like them!

No need here. The girls are active and alert yes, but they are well used to loud noises, like fireworks, and hot air baloons going over the house...the sound of firing up is a loud WHOOSH!

We have fireworks at the Binghamton Mets home games, every Friday night. We live far enough away where the noise isn't deafening. In fact I'll take one or the other to a corner where we can see it. They sit and watch!

You didn't mention the circumstances under which your vet prescribed a tranquilizer. Was it for loud sounds?

I had a GSD/Doberman mix once. He was on valium for siezures.

Re: What will happen when 4th of July is here?

Thanks. The vet said the medicine would be to keep them calm.
However, I gave the older one (she's about 1 1/2) one ace pill and will never
do it again --
she was calm but her eyes were SO bloodshot that it scared the heck out
of me.
thanks for your response

Re: What will happen when 4th of July is here?

I took diamond to the firework display at year 1. Loved all the bright lights.Sounds were not an issue.

She is a veteran and now is part of the party every year.

Hazel (pitbull) was home did not want anything to do with those loud bombs.
Would not even go out the front door.

30 minute after the last BOOOM she would only stand at the front door. Would not budge.
