| Switch from puppy to adult food? It has been nine years since I raised a pup. At what age do you switch them from pupy food to adult food? |

| I think that there are a few opinions on this one. I was feeding Solid Gold puppy at the beginning and the bag said to continue till the dog is 18 months. But then a lot of people say stop puppy food at 6 months. I ended up switching to Canidae, because it was same price bigger bag, and they don't have a puppy formula. So it never became an issue. I think the thoughts with stopping at 6 months is that a large breed dog does not need all the extra protein. But I might be really off on that. You will get the right answers here. Jill |

| Now you've opened a proverbial can of worms! I can't even agree with all of my best fellow Rottie owners! Three out of the five of us feed (puppy formulas) to at least 18 months - 2 yrs...claiming the dog needs appropriate nutrients for proper growth and bone strength. The other two feel they get too much protien and only feed to 6-8 months. You're sure to get much debate both ways.

| My pups never get puppy food - they are weaned straight on to adult formula. Search the archives for more threads on this topic as well as researching Super Premium dog food.

| I switched Xander to Candiae at 5 months and he has grow quite nicely. I suggest most other people to do the same, depending on the breed.
