Bringing home new 16 wk pup!

Well it looks like we finally found a rottie. It is a 16 week old female and we are going to see her tomorrow night. I am being very optimistic that this one will be the right dog for our family.

Any advice? I'll have to go out and get food, bowls, crate, collar, leash, bones.............anything else????

Can anyone even tell me what I can expect from this age? Should it be housebroken yet? Thanks for any and all advice.

This is one of the best places to get help with dog names. Go into chit-chat corner and ask people for help there.

The pup may not be housebroken yet, all depends on if the home she is at now is working with her on it.

Here's a good shopping list for starters:
collar/leash
bowls
food
vitamens
crate
treats
Chew toys
Plush toys
Bones
toys for outside
Paper towels(for accidents)
Books(read up on the breed and know what to expect)
Book a vet visit(even if she does not need shots)

P.s.

I always liked the name andromeda for a female, you could call her annie for short!

http://www.crazyfordogs.com/names/cfdnames.shtml http://www.loveyourpets.com/namer_index.html http://petrix.com/dognames/ http://www.pet-net.net/namethatpet.htm

Delila pretty much covered your shopping list but she forgot to tell you to take out a bank loan..... :D

Congrats on your new furkid!!!!! I have a male the same age and one thing you are going to need that I haven't been able to get enough of is ENERGY!!!!At this age she SHOULD be crate trained and almost if not totally housebroken, and know sit. Try not to get plastic bowls for her, because some manufacturers use plastic with certain chemicals that cause Cancer is pets. They can use this type because it isn't for human use and/or food. Stainless Steel is wonderfuk because you can sanitise them in the dishwasher with out worry. Also NEVER EVER EVER give your girl rawhide, pieces can get stuck in the intestines and when rawhide gets wet it expands leading to intestinal blockages. Good luck and can't wait to see her! :)

Since my last posting things have changed alittle. The Rescue Organization was going to see the pups and they ended up not taking them because they weren't purebred.

Anyways we ended up adopting a 2 year old male who is a real sweetie. His only bad habit is jumping up. I actually posted that under the "behavior" topic to see if anyone could suggest how I could stop this. Thanks
