| pee burns... The snow has melted...and guess what? My grass is burned...That's right, the spot where gates goes pee pee, is yellow. Someone was telling me that there is a pill, or supliment that you can give dogs to remove the nitrate from the urine...anyone heard or it, or know what it's called? |

| Please do not mess with a healthy dog's PH system. |

| Instead of treating your dog, treat the lawn. There are products available for dog spots. I've found Ringer Lawn Restorer works great as an all purpose natural fertilizer and haven't seen any urine burns since.

| In the interim, it may be worthwhile just to keep a hose handy... Whenever the dogs elimiinate and go back in side... I just spray it down with a bit of water to get it off the blades and dilute it a bit.

| Well, and even if there weren't a product to help the lawn, I imagine that upon reflection, you'd rather have some brown spots. |

| From The Scotts Company Website: Is there a product or a recommended solution for dog damage to my lawn? Dog urine contains high levels of nitrogen, which causes grass to become greener. Under certain conditions (i.e., heat or drought stress) the nitrogen may actually burn the grass, causing it to die and leaving a bare spot in the lawn with a dark green circle around the dead grass. This type of reaction is similar to the damage caused by an over-application of fertilizer. The excess nitrogen in the soil causes the plant to give off moisture, instead of absorbing it, and if the area is not watered thoroughly it may cause the grass plant to die. This damage can usually be avoided by watering these areas thoroughly to dilute the concentration of nitrogen in the area. If the areas are already dead, they will have to be removed and re-seeded. No home remedy is available, nor will changing your dog's diet help. A solution that may work for you is to train your dog to eliminate in the same area, such as the back of the yard where it is less noticeable, or in an area with no grass such as a shady spot or a gravel driveway. Below is a bit of a long read, but has some good info: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/p..._problems.html
