Talking Back

Has anyone of you out there have any dog's that talk back to you when you say something to them?? One of my 9 month old girl's just started to talk back at me when i say something to her...specially if i repremand her for something she has done or when i tell her to do something..like to go lay down etc. I couldn't believe that she actually started to do that. It's kind of funny because my hubby couldn't believe it; last night was his first time that he heard her doing it. etc. last night we told her and the other's to go lay down..well, she gave me this look, she went and layed down and all she did was talk back while she was laying down.

Yep! Had that problem with Birdie at the same age as yours! Was told by Judi W to stop treating her like a princess and put her in her place. I basically put her on the NLIF program. It worked - she has now decided that she is not the boss - I am. I like that decision!! But, basically I think it's the age - around 9 months is when they start testing you to see if they can be the boss!

Sajan has talked back since he was a wee 2 weeks old. That was one reason why I picked him. I knew he was going to be full of it and lo and behold he IS;) I don't mind the back talk as long as he does what I told him to. I'm just a sucker for a dog with attitude(I know I don't always sound like:D ).

I couldn't believe when i told my girl to go and lay down and she looked back at me and gave me this look, and then she went about on talking back..like saying.."you can't tell me what to do"! and while she lay's there she mumbles under her breath..she's probably cussing me out for not letting her do what she wants. they have a "rottitude"...i still love my furkids so much:D

The talking back can be pretty funny, but it is not something you want to let them get away with. First talking, next growling, next out right defiance. I don't allow any back talk.

O'Malley has always talked back. I've always thought it was so cute over the years and never have discplined him for it. He's 12 now so I won't even begin to try. Besides, he doesn't do it much anymore.

Since discovering this site and being a new Rottweiler owner, I've learned MANY MANY things, lots of do's and dont's, from all of you experienced people. Should Teddy ever consider talking back, it will be nipped in the bud immediately [even thought I'm sure I would think it was still cute]. :D

This is NOT good behaviour

I presume that you have to train MORE on leadership exercises.

I've had entire conversations with my Drakey. He's a big talker & a big sasser.

He does what I tell him - always - but often he tells me he doesn't like it.

Don't give me advice anyone - It works for us. I've had him for 6 years. He is very obedient, loving, & sweet. He's a retired Therapy Dog who never "talked" when he was working.

Not recommending it just saying you're not alone.
