Thinking of adopting a rottweiler

I have the oppurtunity to get a 7 month old female German Rottweiler, but there is one question that I have, her nose seems to be real long, is that normal? Will she grow into it? Her nose looks more like a German Shepard or Lab nose. Any help will be graetly appreciated.

I've seen some of the 'longer snout' rotties and they were purebred. Chloe has the more tradtional muzzle. The dog you're considering might change its appearance a little but we found that after 6 months, aside from sheer size/bodyweight, Chloe's face held the same look and dimensions.

I hope her appearance doesn't deter you from taking her if you're up to all the responsibility. I'd hit the library for some books to read up on the breed. There will be lots of pictures to compare this girl to. Good luck.

My 15 month old female looks like that and I've seen many others too. I didn't like it at first, but because I love her I'm getting used to it. :)

If she's that young and from Germany, she has a tail, right?

What do you know about her breeding? Our 3 yo rescue girl also has a long snout, but we know that's because Tula is from a BYB.

My girl looks like that too. We've even had people ask if she's a mixed breed!

My dog too has a narrow snout, instead of the "normal" blunt snout.

I too get asked all the time if she is a mix, but she's not :(

I think they are cute :)

Did you know that every 4.5 seconds a cat or dog in america is "put to sleep"?

I tend to disagree. If a German bitch bred to German male has puppies in the US the tails may be docked. It is clear that your definition of German means born in German, but I believe it means of German bloodlines. Sure most of the rotts in the US come from German bloodlines, but I think that within reason a dog whose first 3 generations are 'German' dogs then you can call these dogs German.

I will say that way too many people claim to have German puppies when trying to sell them (i.e. BYB, newspapers, etc.)

Since we are not talking about citizenship status (like humans) I feel it's okay to call dogs German if in fact the Sire/Dam are form 100% German bloodlines... I know there can be a lot of subjectivity here...
