The comments I remember most are "Wow He's a beautiful dog", "How much does he weigh?", "How old is he?", "Is he mean?","What a beautiful face he has", "Rottweiler's are the only dog I am afraid of!". A lady in our agility class that does competition said "Elijah is just awesome! He is the nicest Rottie I have ever met!" That made me proud :) Another lady in agility that I had never seen before, walked by us with her dog and said "Git him away from us now!!!!!!!" That made me angry-just another person with Rottie Phobia I guess! :)

How much does he weigh?

How much does he eat?

Is it a boy or a girl?

He's so BIG!

He's a little Rottie, I have one "up to here".

What a beautiful dog!

Will he bite me?

Are you walking him, or is he walking you?

He must weigh about 180 lbs.

Is that a Rockwilder, Rockwalder, Rootwiller, etc.?! GRRRR

She's so sweet.

How much will you take for her?

When are you going to let her have puppies? (Lecture follows) ;)

The one I hate most- "I used to have a Rockwilder, but he got run over."

and my favorite... "I thought all Rottweilers were mean, guess I was wrong." :D

"That's a lot of dog for such a little lady", "He weighs more than you do", "He is a beauty", "your food bill must be outta sight", "how much does he eat" - the usual stuff, unfortnately, no cute guys .... lots of kids though. They all think he is Carl. There are a few rotties where I live and they are all Carl to the kids. Thank God for Carl, he does a lot to change the sterotype! I am single too but when I say I have a rottweiler - that's the end of the date! I guess they figure if they try get fresh Cromwell will use them for a chew toy. Obviously they watch too much TV and don't know how sweet and loving rotties can be.

I get a lot of Carl comments, too. It's so neat to see moms with kids who are excited to meet a "real Carl dog."

I just have to throw in a couple more comments here that irritated me today. Cooper comes to work with me, & I was at the paint store. First stupid comment: He's not a blockhead, so I guess he's not German." huh? My response: "There is no such thing as a blockhead, and his dam's mother was a German import." Second thoughtless comment: "Are you going to breed him?" When I answered "no", his response: "Well, you can make some money off him that way." Grrr. I told him it would not be ethical, and since hundreds of perfectly healthy Rottweilers are killed every day in shelters, I wasn't about to add to the problem.

BTW, Cooper is 4 1/2 months old, absolutely gorgeous & comes from beautiful lines. he has a beautiful head & bone, pretty dark colouring and a wonderful expression! However, he is...shaggy :); of course an "incorrect" coat. He is so pretty & well mannered, he gets a lot of attention. The question I get most is "What's he mixed with?" This is understandable, & I don't mind people asking, but I'm trying to come up with a snappy answer since I get asked this daily.

Working....Keep us updated on Mr Goosepond!

Carina, here's some ideas we came up with..."What's he mixed with?" AN EGGBEATER! HAHAHA

But seriously folks, Tell people he is a "Special Mountain Rottweiler". "They are very rare, you see, they work up in the high mountains of Germany and they need the longer, thicker coat to keep them warm! They are so rare and valuable that only one out of a thousand ever leaves Germany, and I am so lucky to have one!"
"Oh yeah, and the German Government won't let us breed them because they want to own all the breeding stock for themselves!"

Hey, most of these people don't know the difference between a Thoroughbred and a Chihuahua, so baffle em with BS! :D

Eggbeater....HAHA I like it, alexa. Though given his increasing (18 weeks, 51lbs, yikes! I'm trying not to let him grow too fast...but...his parents were both BIG) size, perhaps "cement mixer" would be more appropriate!

I sometimes tell people he is a Rocky Mountain Fleece Edition Rottweiler :).

The most common remark I hear is how well trained my dogs are, then, since I have a pair, people ask if they get along. I have only once had a question,"why do you have dogs like THAT?"

Gee,everyones in on this one eh!.....Got a lot when she was a puppy, now mostly people keep a distance. What realy BOTHERS ME is when an adult, especialy men, just come right up and try to pet her.SHE DOESN`T LIKE THAT!
She usually backs away(wait&see)and sometimes she growls. If there are on-lookers it gives the wrong impression.I`ve noticed that children ALWAYS ASK first,I tell them to let her smell your hand, then they can pet her all they want and she just loves that.
-----------------------------------
It`s what I hear people say behind my back. At our dog run last year,a nice young women with a Yellow lab(a new member)come in and has a world of information and advice for everyone.O.K you did all the research, you chose the best breed for you, your dog is pure from a good breeder, you`ve got the best trainer in town, feed the best food, buy the safest toys,Yellow lab membership exc...Once there were meny dogs so I took my though-chain out of my pocket so Selket could see.Three people asked me what it was for,I expained in detail the proper use a through-chain.When I walked away she said"oooh, she has to use a chain lol"She then gave a free lecture on the differences between posotive and negative training. She can call it what she wants, the old methods are tried&true.I have controll over my dog and that`s what counts. Her dog is always getting mounted(she`s fixed)even by other females,I should ask her to explain that, lol.

We seem to get asked a lot, "Doe's he bite?"
My usual response is "Not unless you bite him first."

I have also been known to respond with, "Well, he licks first to see how you taste"

These are said with humor and so far everyone has taken it that way... Sets people (especially kids) at ease and then they may pet him. At 26.5" and 130 lbs Gryph does look quite intimidating to people who don't know him well. If they only knew what a big baby he was.

I hear: She's beautiful! Is she spayed? And then there's the non-verbals: the small dog owners who snatch up their pups at the first sight of Tori. And the most dramatic: The mothers who grab their children and thrust them behind themselves as if to protect them from my marauding beast!! But, to be fair, there are better informed parents who have no qualms about letting their toddlers wrap their arms around Tori's neck and hug her.! Those are my favorites because a lot of times the tikes haven't learned not to poke the doggie in the eyes or put their fingers up her nose and Tori will roll her eyes up at me as if to say, "How much longer is this going to last?"
