| What kind of dog is it? Really? He looks different.... that's because he's still filling out, and doesn't have a big head. Oh, what a NICE dog! And a personal favorite happened just last night. I was walking him and stopped to chat with a neighbor. He sat very politely and she reached out to pet him. I should add here that the whole family is pretty much dog-phobic. Then she asked me what kind of dog he was. Just then her daughter came up, just as I said "a Rottweiler." The daughter said "I can't believe Mom is actually petting him." Go Spike Go! :D |

| Where we live is a family housing area (military) and all the children know my dogs by name. One day we were heading up to PA for a 4 day weekend about a month after adopting Chyna. I was walking her out to the car and a huge group of children came rushing over and before I could say anything they had circled around her hands everywhere. I almost paniced not knowing her history and all but, she just sat there licking any hand she could get to. I was so proud of her. Then I had a little class with the kids explaining to them about running up to any dog and how it could scare the dog and make the dog bite. They all listened intently and I watched as it went in one ear and out the other ;) All the kids are asking a million questions at once. How old is she? what kind of dog? What do you feed her? LOL, kids crack me up. |

| Most common ones are, Can I pet him? Is he friendly? What's his name? He's a pit bull, right? occasionally we get - Does he bite? And because Carl isn't really big for a male Rott everyone always asks me how old he is and how much does he weigh. And then they tell me that so and so's Rottweiler weighs 160 pounds and his head is so big, and then they tell me my Rottweiler is SOOOO small. ![]() I remember one time a couple came up and asked to pet Carl. The lady petted him and of course he just licked her. She then went over to the man and said, "I told you they're nice" :D :D I've never noticed anyone crossing the street to get away from him, but I have seen people make big, huge circles to avoid him. | Living in an apartment and still haveing just a 5 month old puppy, From kids I usually get can I pet her!!! But from adults the most popular statement is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH HER WHEN SHE WEIGHS 200 POUNDS! The second most popular from males are.........shes gonna drag you everywhere in a few months. And the next popular would just be the LQQK like im bad news or something!

| "What's her name" "She's cute and SO friendly!" "i thought rottweilers were supposedly mean" ..to that, i would explain rotties are not mean, its due to upbringing blahblahblah. I had a little girl run up to me and go "OH ! A baby Wottweiler!!! May i pet her?" and she THREW her arms around Rachel. Rachel was surprised, i was shocked, wanted to make her stop that but Rachel went on and on licking her face..bleah. But number one statement is probably "Aren't rottweilers mean? How come your's is so friendly". |

| When I'm walking Nika the thing that makes me mad is "Do you want to breed her?" Then you hear about the brother-in-law with the 180 lb Rotti that would be just perfect. I just say "It wouldn't do any good. She is spayed" :DI also get "she is so well behaved" |

| The number one question I get is "Est-ce qu'il est mauvais?" ("Is he mean?" -- I live in Québec, BTW :D ) Begbie is 28" at the shoulder, 125 lbs, with a head you could serve a roast on, so I get a LOT of people crossing the street when they see us coming. I also get a lot of guys with muscle T-shirts and Camaros going on about how cool my dog is and "I used to have one just like that." (What happened to it???) Kids seem to gravitate to him, so I get to give a lot of lessons about approaching dogs slowly and letting them sniff you before petting them! Which is difficult, since my french is far from perfect! My favorite question was from a kid. We were walking Kara and Begbie together. Kara is only eighty pounds and a lot shorter than Begbie, and a kid asked if Begbie was Kara's mom! :D |

| Yesterday on our walk we came across a woman doing her gardening. She stood up and said oh what a beautiful dog, asked her name, I told her Anja she called her name and Anja went to her and leaned in for a petting. The woman was stroking her and telling her how beautiful and nice she was. She then looked up and asked me what kind of dog she was. When I said Rottweiler she turned white and practically fell over trying to back up. She then said oh I hate those dogs....ARUGH!! |

| Sounds like many of you are very lucky to live among people who at least have some common sense. Unfortunately, in the part of Chicago that we live in, most people are just plain... uninformed (to put it politely). My Chloe is just 7 months this week, a big bundle of love and kisses. Absolutely ADORES kids and people in general. And yet, everytime I walk her down the street, I feel like I'm committing a crime. It's really, really sad, and makes me MAD AS HELL! Just a few minutes ago while walking her, I got no less than THREE not-so-pleasant encounters. The first one involved one dubious-looking guy, his girlfriend/wife and their two kids. The moment he saw Chloe, he shouted out, "Hey you! Can you move that dog WAY OUT to the side? Them dogs are DANGEROUS!" I looked at him and calmly said, "She doesn't bite anyone without a reason, moreover, I'm holding on to her leash very tightly." To which he replied (thanks to the recent coverage of the Rottweiler attack by the local media), "Uh uh... them things are MEAN. I saw it on TV." My blood was BOILING at this point. I said, "It's the people that make them mean. If you raise your dog to dogfight, they're going to be mean." (To tell you the truth, HE looked like one of those that do.) He just went "Uh...ok." and went on his way. The next one involved some very rude and badly-raised young teenage boys. The third encounter involved my downstairs neighbor, who breed babies like rabbits, whose kids are 100 times way more destructive and noisy than ANY of my two dogs. She claimed that Chloe scared the bejesus out of her baby when we were coming back upstairs from a walk a few days ago. These are the SAME KIDS who constantly are left to run up and down the hallway unsupervised, and bark stupidly at Chloe when they see her. The mother NEVER advises them to stop, or don't do that, or whatever. I guess she thinks that's cute. Phew! Sorry, I really had to vent. In my next move, I'm going to do my very best to get a "feel" for the types of people that live in that neighborhood. I'm tired of living so close to a bunch of ignorant, stereotyping ignoramuses.
