AKC registration stats down again

http://www.akc.org/breeds/regstats2001.cfm
down to 13th place and just over 22,000 which I believe is a significant drop from prior year.
Way to go!

Keep in mind though, those stats are only for REGISTERED litters.

There are still WAY too many UNREGISTERED rottweilers in the shelters. As of today (2/6/2003) petfinder has 2,440 listed. And thats ONLY the listed ones, there are a fair share of shelters that do not have petfinder web sites :(

Good point. Can you imagine how many more unregistered litters there were when Rotties were #2? I would like to believe that the numbers indicate a decline in unregistered litters too. Think about it, BYB's don't breed what they can't sell and through many people like the ones on these forums, many more buyers are learning BEFORE they buy.

Educate, educate, educate! That is the only thing that will save our breed.

I agree, I believe that these numbers are some indication that the breed is getting less popular and the number of unregistered rotties born is also smaller.
