| chew toy recommendations I have been looking at several chew toys and cannot decide which will last the longest, other than Kongs, which we already have. One toy that I have heard good things about is a Buster Cube, but I don't know if they hold up to a determined Rottweiler. Both of mine are voracious chewers, and will tear up anything they are given, other than the Kongs, so far. Then, I am looking at a picture of a Nylabone Dental chew, bone-shaped with small protrusions all over it. Does anyone know if these hold up? Two other items I see in the catalog a a Galileo Nylabone, and a Flexible Hercules Gumbone. Does anyone know anything about either of these? Also, I see Greenies in this catalog, and I know people on this Forum have mentioned them. Are these treats or chew toys? I can't tell from the description. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks! |

| Galileo Nylabone is the only thing that holds up ours can destroy a kong in no time at all and the hurcules gumbone he bit in half the first try. since our dog has dfestroyed so many of nylabones products everytime they get a new one we get samplies from them and surveys to fill out the last one we got was called nylabone hamsteak it was round and flat and looked like a ham steak it held up well. the only thing bad about nylabone products is once they start playing and tossing them around look out |

| Gumabone products are not going to hold up to an aggressive chewer...puppies, yes, adult rott, no ;) . I buy the Kongs and stuff with peanut butter/shredded wheat mixture and freeze them for a while - takes longer for the dog to get the stuff out. I also have several very thick bones that I stuff with the same mixture (I freeze those solid overnight) and give to Ben in the morning a few days a week when I know I'll be out of the house a little longer than normal. Nylabones - OK if you supervise, in my opinion. If they swallow small pieces (and they will) it'll inevitably come out the other end, and if you, like me, don't get all the poop scooped out in the yard, you'll find little piles of 'nyla-poop' once the actual poop has disintegrated :D :D .Ben gets Greenies on occassion - he takes his time chewing those - it's more of a longer lasting treat than a chew toy. Our older dog has a Nylabone Dental chew - it's called a 'Souper' I think - looks like a big fat letter 'S'....pretty thick, about 4 inches long. She's been gnawing on that for about a month now...she gets bored or tired and sleeps on it! Nothing wrong with having more than one Kong - they come in different colors too - green for Xmas, blue is waterproof, HUGE black one, and I think I saw a pastel one for Easter last year!! |

| One of our favorite toys for Shilo was one of those hard plastic balls, about 12" in diameter, that the dog can push around and chase. She would play with her 'scootcher ball', our name for it, for a long time, until she got too blind to see it, or the obstacles in her way :( I can't remember the brand name, and it wasn't cheap, but it has lasted at least 9 years, although it has faded. I am going to try and get Ginger interested in it if the weather ever improves, since it is definitely an outside toy. She is much gentler on toys than our ACD Jake. I wish I had invested in the Kong for him years ago. I can't tell you how many tennis balls he's shredded, and he had the Nylabone roughed up in no time. Ginger loves those rag/rope toys, too. She is always begging for tug o war sessions, but she also likes the naked Barbie my niece left in the yard (I told the kids if toys are left out laying in the yard, they become fair game for dog toys ).

| My dogs ADORE the kongs and don't really chew them so much as play with them. the only problem is that they play with them in the 'stream' that goes through my property and away float the kongs! I told them that I wouldn't buy another one if they lost the last one...and they have so I won't;) I've tried not letting them out with kongs, but they always manage to take one out when I'm not looking:D :( :p Leader

| We have some pretty aggressive chewers and they just love the Galileos. They last a long time. We have also used the "Plaque Attackers" which are softer but clean the teeth and gums better. But for a really aggressive chewer, they will not last long enough. Sharon Marples

| Kenji has gone thru every dog toy we've given him except for his black kong. We also got him some rubber balls from IKEA when he was a pup and they've lasted about a year with no punctures or missing chunks. His all time favorite toy is plain ol'basketball. The buster cube had about 5 minutes of playtime and he had enough. I hope this helps |

| The "Buddy Bone" has been holding up really well for 2 months. It is a plastic bone with 2 rubber balls on each end, and my dog loves it! |

| chew toy recommendations Athena has nyla bones ( Galileo Large size) , denta bone shaped like a dinosuar & a kong. but, I found something really, really cool yesterday! It's a small tire for dogs to chew on! :D omg, she loved it right away. It'll be curious to see if it lasts or if she manages to tear it up. I currently have the land of abused toys, hehee. Give a stuffed toy, in 5 minutes the stuffing is out! So, I restich it after it dries & try again, rinse- repeat, rinse -repeat. Have over 20 stuffed toys, kept thinking 1 or 2 of them would actually last! NOT!@ Her favorite stuffed ones are the press button toys with the battery operated animal sounds. The duck espcecially! She hears the quack & will run from anywhere in the house!

| The only bones that ever lasted any length of time with Reno were the Nylabone Soupers and Galileo's. He'd wear them down after about a month, but that sure beat anything else. I used to get him smoked knuckle leg bones which also lasted quite awhile, but I haven't seen them around anywhere for a few years. Too bad as he really liked those, but they will make a mess of light colored carpet.

| I found a square tennis type ball made by Kong at my local grocery store of all places! Nash can rip an oversized tennis ball in half within a day. (Then she wants to play tug with it!) This ball has lasted since Christmas Day which is a record for her! I tried the hard plastic ball (about 12"), but if she can't get it in her mouth, she doesn't want it. We are working on "be nice" with a doggie flyer. She is doing great with it! I'm going to have to dig out the frisbee, can't wait till spring! I also stuff her kong ball. She loves it!

| Payton is an aggresive chewer too. I bought the black kong a little over a year ago and it's still intact. Then a few months ago I was in Old Navy and saw these solid rubber bones in a bunch of colors. I thought oh for $3.50 I'll give it a shot.......he still has them. They have held up great and he goes at them big time. Not a chip out of them yet. He likes them because he can carry them around better. Everytime I go to Old Navy they have them in new colors and holiday designs. I was just talking to someone the other night who was telling me that her obedience instructor gives them out as training treats/gifts for a class well done. I have a friend who swears by the Galileo too. Good Luck! |

| what not to get Birdie got a Jolly ball from my sis-in-law for Christmas - it took all of 3 minutes for her to get through the handle! My sister bought her a "Plush Puppy" brand stuffed animal (the wart hog one) cause I had heard that they were supposed to be tougher than other brands - that lasted a half an hour before the head was severed! That makes a total of 22 toys destroyed! What did last? Her kong ball and the giant kong!!! Kongs are awesome!:) |

| I found a toy that Knuckles has not detroyed yet. It is a monkey that has an oversized tennis ball in the body with the fabric stretched over it tightly, and a squeeker in it's head. My son found some kind of big bone - like a Nylabone, but sort of free-form with smooth curves. He has put some teeth marks in it, and he loves to knaw on this thing.

| All the kong products work well for us. You should also try the "tugg n toss" These are great, thay are balls made from 1/2 inch thick rubber material and they have a handle so our girls can grab em and shake them or throw them. I believe they come in the 6, 8, and 10 inch sizes. We have 2 10 inch ones, but they are outdoor toys only for us, our girls would do too much damage with them inside.
