Need good puppy book

I have numerous books on rotts and dogs, but nothing on puppy training. I did a pretty good job with my lab however I'd like to do an even better job with Kobi (8 week female) . All the books I have talk about training but in a general " this is how you do this" type thing. I want something that gives a play by play, day by day, week by week of what and when to introduce commands and behavior shaping. What things can you teach together in one session, what goes together and what does not.
I know how to train individual commands and wanted/unwanted behaviour so I just would like a guide type thing to follow.
Example: I now need to leash her when we go to the potty area - do I just kind of coax her along and hopefully we'll get there. Or is now the time to learn to be on a leash. I read on book that says to teach your pup to walk with you before introducing a lead.
We live in a bilevel, so there are stairs leading to the front door. I dont' like here walking down stairs at such a young age but she also hates and cowers when she knows I'm about to pick herup and carry down the stairs to go outside. (I actually had to catch her this morning as I made the mistake of going downstairs and then coming back up to get her to go out.)
It's things like this that I'm unsure about.
Soooo, with that, what are recomendations for a couple of good puppy traing books.

In my opinion, the best puppy rearing book ever written is called 'How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With' by Rutherford and Neil.

I found this book after I had already raised three puppies but I still found excellent info in this book. You can likely pick it up at Chapters too!!!

Thanks , Kristi. I will be in the city tomorrow. ( we don't actually live in the city) so I'll stop at Chapters to look.

BTW, we were just down your way last weekend. Picked up our pup from the breeder who lives about 5 min from Chestermere.
The sire is from Ardrie ( hope I spelled that right)

If you can PM me, I'd love to find out more about your puppy, I know of only one breeder in Airdrie. Anyhow, have fun with the little one!

I've always loved the book:

"How to teach a new dog old tricks"
By Dr. Ian Dunbar
ISBN: 1888047062

Dr. Dunbar is an incredible behavioural specialist. So not only does he tell you how to teach, but WHY it will work! ;)

"Idiots Guide To Puppies" or something along those lines - worked for friends of mine!! Don't be put off by the title - I LOVE these books!!

The 'Idiots Guides to..." and the "....For Dummies" books are fabulous and full of simple to follow information!

The best puppy book in my opinion is:
After you getyour puppy by Ian Dunbar

This should be required reading for all pup owners

Excellent, thanks everyone. I'll search for them all tomorrow while at Chapters and pick a couple to start. I know there is alot out there but I just can't get them all and I would like the two that I get to be laymen style and have variations since all pups react differently to different techniques.

Kristi, I'll pm you tomorrow late in the day with some details.:)

Not specifically a puppy raising book, but "The Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson is my all-time favourite dog book. She writes very well - it's a great read - about how a dog's mind works, and how owners can better motivate, train, and build a relationship with a dog...it's just an amazing book and I think everyone who has ever known a dog should read it!

If you get the Ian Dunbar book, get this one to complement it. There's a whole section on training exercises too, ranging from beginner to advanced.

OOOOooooOOOO!

my fav book:

The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Sket

absolutely the best book I ever read about puppies.

The have been raising GSD for 25 yrs, so they have a lot of experience.

made me understand alot of what my puppy was telling me by behavior
