Looking for home owner's insurance in Burnet County, TX

Just curious..have called around, and so far found one insurance company, The Farmer's Bureau..that was very friendly and WILL insure homes with rotties..Our current policy expires in Jan (good timing) and The Farmer's Bureau said while they are capped off for the year, they can write us a new policy in January..to fax over current policy. Sorry to say most of the insurance companies I spoke with , private and not, were rude. None of them knew what the heck I was talking about when I asked if they "blacklist certain dog breeds", but when I mentioned "Rottweiler", I got a firm "NO." I do know also that "Farmer's" insurance doesn't discriminate, but they weren't writing new policies..and did not mention whether they'd be writing more as of Jan. They were pretty short. And, only being a home owner for a few years, I didn't realize "not writing new policies" might be a temporary thing. Any other companies anyone knows of? I have had dogs that are half rott for 2 years, but they are solid black and most people think they are labs..but now have come to own a full Rottweiler.

Insurance Company?

Anyone have USAA homeowners insurance, and do you know if they accept rotties?

I know State Farm in CT will insure you if you own rotties (or any other breed for that matter!). Not sure of what 'rules' are throughout the USA though.

Our State Farm agent said that the company (State Farm) does not discriminate by BREED - but by DEED...so, if you have 5 rotties and a Chihuahua, and the Chi bites someone, you'll either get a rate increase or dropped at the next renewal date.

OK, here's what she said....

not that I know of. you just can't have one specifically for guard purposes and attacking purposes. only if he/she has bitten anyone before will they require you to get rid of them. why???
We have all of our insurance with State Farm. They've never even asked us if we have a dog. Good thing I asked huh:) . I guess different state, different regulations....

funny you should ask. I am in the process of buying a new home and use USAA for everything else ie: car insurance, CC, loans, etc. and in a search on the web I found this link which tells me they don't have any restrictions. I know when I called them they asked if I had any dogs presently but didn't indicate there were any restrictions.

Our insurance company does not have a "blacklist" either. We checked before we adopted Brodie. We were told by our agent that we really didn't have to do anything reguarding the dog and that he is covered under the liability. He suggested that we up our insurance "just in case" anything were to happen with Brodie but it was completely up to us. Unfortunately Country Financial is only located in Illinois, at this time. We have all of our insurance (auto, life and home) through them. They are a great company to deal with.

I am im Illinois also and allstate as well as state farm do not discriminate against breed, just deed, however state farm tells me your dog cannot be "guard dog trained". I guess that means it cant be taught to make it's own decisions when you are not around? Wont most dogs protect property, at least by barking , making them a guard dog?
I think what they really mean is attack dog trained?
