how much time do u spend with your rotti/ do they have the run of the house??

please feel free to comment. I have one male rotti, one year old..he spends half his time in our large fenced yard, and half inside. Inside he has his own room which is kinda cnertal and has alot of traffic..he sleeps inside..when we are watching tv at night we bring him to the lving room to spend time w/us. every am i take him out from 5am-5.45am..the me and my wife go to wkr..meantime my mom/brother are home and spend limited time with him..let him out in the yard bring him back in. and spend some time interating as well..then when i get back from wrk i take him out for a walk for another hour..and also spend time say 30minutes with him in his room. and as mentioned b4 we bring him to the living room to watch tv almost everynight say for 90min or so..am i spending enough time with him?? I realy want to give him the run of the house but cant...any comments welcome. any opinions on getting him a companion k9??

Ozzy spends all his time with us. We have a very large yard but he won't go out without one of us. We tried leaving him out there but he just sat by the door wanting to come in with us.

During the day, we have a friend who watches him.

After we get home from work, he's with us all the time. He follows us around everywhere.

His huge crate is in our bedroom, so he also sleeps with us.

That's how it is in our household.

We are lucky my husband is retired and I work part time so Linda spends lots of time with us. Whenever possible I take her into town to run errands with me, living in Costa Rica she can go into the bank with me, the market etc. even have a beer with us in the local bar

She spends about 1/2 the day or longer outside with our other 4 dogs - whenever they want and we are home they all come in the house (and wreak havoc!) She sleeps in bed with us at night and the other 4 take turns. So at night we have a 60 lb Rottie, a cat and one other dog with us - crowded but we love it!

BTW It sounds like you are spending lots of time with your baby. Steph

Domingo is outside during the day, when we are at work. He has a big fenced in and padlocked backyard to roam around in. When I get home from work, around 5:30, I let him in and he stays with us until morning when the routine starts again. I would love to get another one, but they are very expensive to care for and do take a lot of time to train and exercise on a daily basis. Maybe a year or two down the road we'll adopt another rescue.

Because he's only 15 mos and can't be trusted in the house alone, he spends the day in his very large crate (which is in our bedroom). In the morning he gets an hour worth of romping with his toys and his breakfast while we get ready for work. Then mid-day my husband comes home to let him out for awhile. When I get home around 4:30pm he gets an hour walk, then play/working time in our front yard with me for another 30-45 minutes. Once inside, he spends the rest of the day/night following me or my husband around, playing with his toys, or just snoozing next to our bed while we're watching TV. Even though we have a big, fenced in yard, he doesn't much time out there on his own because he insists on sitting by the door until someone lets him in. Besides that, I'd rather have him with me all the time!! He also comes with me to the store, post office, petstore, and the park for working/obedience training time depending on the weather.

I work from home so Cassie spends the entire day with me. One exception, she has what I call 'down time' for 1-2 hours during the afternoon. This is when I put the gate up in the laundry room door and she just takes a nap (her crate is in there). She isn't allowed upstairs or in the front living room, other than that, she has the run of the house. She only goes outside with me or my hubby. Because it has been so cold, we are only out for about 20-30 minutes (about all I can stand) but we go out 3 or 4 different times a day.

I absolutely agree with not letting a one year old have free run of the house when you are not home....but I don't understand why he has to be in his "room" when you ARE home??

I have two rottweilers, a 5 year old and a 1-1/2 year old. When I go to work, they are either in their outdoor kennel, chainlink and double locked, if the weather is appropriate, or when it is too cold, they stay in the house. Neither is crated and they both have full run of the house.

When I get home from work, I always have the dogs with me, mostly because I enjoy their company and I like having them along when I am out in the woods (we snowshoe or run every night) or working around outside. When I work in my husband's shop, they hang out with me also. At night they sleep in the same bedroom as my husband and I, but on the floor on their dog beds.

I don't believe that they need to be with me for this amount of time, but I like having them around and they seem to enjoy being with me also. I guess it's whatever works best for you.

I have a 4 mo. old male who does very well in the kitchen in or out of his crate. I only work two half days a week so he gets a very long walk in a field twice a day and constant playtime with us although does spend much of the other time in the kitchen without any fuss. Usually when he's in their he's sleeping anyway. We go for rides and do what ever. I usually let it up to him, sometimes he wants more exercise sometimes less. Our pup never had a separation adjustment because he was the only pup so he wasen't use to being with litter mates. We find he adjusts to things very very well and doesn't demand our attention all the time. He occupies himself very well. Everybodies life style is different find what works for you though they do like to be with you when they get to that age of a year and older. They just like a humans contact all the time. I would probably have him with you more, he may feel secluded when he's off in his room, just a suggestion. We plan on having Czar with us in the other rooms soon for small amount of times, he's into everything and is very much a chewer. We're taking it slow. Hope this helps.

Judy

Mine is 8 months old and is with us constantly except for the few hours a day I work. Then he is crated. He has full run of the house with my older dog when we are home and sleeps with one of my sons. We never let him outside by himself. He goes out to eat with us (drive thru of course) he goes to play sessions with other dogs and goes to visit people with us.

These pups have hit the lottery,They will be 1 yr. Monday and we have a 12yr. Dobie and they all have an acre fenced, where they run and play, when they want in they come in,I even leave them in when I have to go without them, they only ,if anything tear up their toys, but don't do that too much either,The Dobe goes in my room on her bed and forgets them, they usually nap..Leah sleeps with me,but the other two like the floor,(Thank goodness)or I'd have the floor ..You said you would like to give them the run of the house, but can't,What did you mean by that, because of them or someone else??????But yes,it sounds like you spend good time with her..except for my question???They really don't run through the house, mine don't ,just want to be near!!! Baby has complete run of the house. I Work midnights, my roomate Lucy, is home most all days.

She sleeps on the couch most of the time. Really not a big problem, since noone else ever sits on it. She's adopted it as her own. When I go upstairs to bed, she usually follows me up and lays next to the bed until I go to sleep. She goes back downstairs and spends the day with Lucy.

She has a dog door and a big fenced in yard. She comes and goes when she wants. On my days off, I try to take her (weather permitting) SOMEWHERE in the car. She really doesn't care where we go as long as we go. Sometimes to PetsMart, sometimes to the doggy bakery, sometimes to visit Grandpa.

We just got Missy a month ago. She is almost four and she has not spent one minute from my family since. I work nights and my husband works days. She does not go out at all unless she is on a leash with me and we go for long walks. If you even mention the word ride, I swear she smiles and goes in the kitchen to get her leash!! We take her every where that we go. She sleeps in our bed at night and during the day she is my constant companion. My son lays on her as he watches TV and she loves it. Honestly, I knew I would always have three kids and she is number 3 for us. I can now say I have my two girls and a boy, and I love it. Thanks God for creating Rotts!!
